loose rearview mirror

Damn thing has a slight rattle that drives me nuts.

How do you tighten it? That little security screw underneath it?

Screw is loose or metal plate partially detached from glass or both. You really should be able to figure it out yourself by grabbing the mirror, applying strong sudden pulling motion with both hands with right foot against the dash, then look inside metal plate, if you see some glue residual there, then yes, it is detached from glass, but no biggie, you just had a bad day.

Mine rattles just going down the street. Kinda sounds like some loose change. If I grab it for a second and let go, it seems to stay in place for a while.

I just tried that, but my foot slid off the dash and went through the window. Any other ideas?

hmm.. wrap a chain around the mirror, thru missing window and around a telephone pole, put gear in reverse, and yell "vroom" as loud as you can. MARK METAL PLATE LOCATION FIRST!

Ok, anyone got any constructive advice?

The screw doesn't seem to thread into anything....when I turn it the thing doesn't go anywhere....whether I'm tightening or removing it. The mirror is getting worse - moves a lot more and the rattling is driving me insane.

Congratulations, you stripped either the bolt or bolt hole, or both. Solution-just buy used mirror off of ebay or whatever and get it over with, you can find one for about 60 bucks. Make sure you buy the right part, mirror design is not the same on 6th gen, different number of buttons depending on your particular model. Insert your VIN# here (right upper side of screen) and find your part. And no, I do not work for them, but do find it very convenient and bulletproof method finding correct part for any nissan out there.

ps is the telephone pole still there?
