2008 Maxima HID replacement

Need a little help. My driver's side HID low beam just turned pink this morning on my way to work. I turn the car off for a few minutes and start back up and the light stays its original color for about 1 minute before it goes back to pink. Is it safe to assume that I need to replace the bulb? But I should replace both since I have to pull the front bumper cover off The dealer wants $190 per bulb, is there an alternative that is a little cheaper? A friend that manages an audio store told me he could get me Phillips replacement bulbs for the 08 Max for $125 for the pair as opposed to $380 from the dealer. DOes anyone have any experience with HID replacement and can recommend a replacement for me so I don't spend the kids Christmas money. LOL....

2008 Maxima HID replacement

Which color would i need that would be closest to the OEM 5000K or 6000K? I'm not really sure which ones I would need. Thanks for your help but I've never had to replace before and don't want to have to do it again. So I want to make sure I purchase the correct thing

What color light do YOU prefer? If you don't want to spend too much and like a little bit yellowish output, get Philips 85122+, which are a bit yellowish and stay yellowish as they age. If you don't want to spend to much and like a little whiter output, get Osram Xenarc 66240, which start off a little yellowish and get whiter as they age. If you don't mind spending about $200 for a pair, get the Osram Xenarc 66240 SVS or Osram Xenarc 66240 CBI, 4300K and 5000K respectively. You could get whatever color Morimoto 3FIVE bulbs you want, but I prefer OEM bulbs now.

HID replacement

joecurr, i want to be as close to OEM as I can get. I don't mind spending a little more to get as close to OEM as possible, but I just think $380 form the dealer is ridiculous. So, would the 5000K get me the OEM look

I would get those:

Morimoto, they say they have less warranty issues with those than OEM.

45$ a pair, thats ridiculous, I paid 200$ a pair at car parts store last year...

Or get philips, 95$ a pair.

3000K is yellow, 4300K is OEM white with a hint of yellowish (most light), 5000K is whiter (less light), and 6000k is bluish (even less light)

Personally I like 4300K. Most light. The purple and blue color comes from the projector anyway, you do not need whiter bulbs. Whiter bulbs are for hid "kits", when people want to fake the hid reflector colors in a car that doesnt have hid projectors. If you want to fake the hid look in a civic, you need "blue bulbs", at the cost of lower light output, and uglyness.

OEM will be 4300k, so the Philips 85122+ should be good enough. On the HIDplanet forums, people have compared those with the Osram SVS and have found that the SVS's do provide better overall lighting. The center hotspot is a bit bigger and wider, allowing you to see a bit better down the road, and the sides are also a tad brighter. I'm currently running 85122+'s and they still provide great output, but for me personally they are a bit too yellow. I have Osram CBI's collecting dust waiting to be installed.

I wouldn't really say Morimoto has less warranty issues than any OEM bulb, but they might have less warranty issues than other aftermarket bulbs. The good thing about Morimoto's is if you do have warranty issues, theretrofitsource has GREAT customer service. And regarding color, using Osram CBI's there no longer is less light when going from 4300K to 5000K. These bulbs offer the best white output in the market, equivalent if not better than most other OEM 4300K bulbs, and definitely better than any other 5000K bulb. Choosing between 4300K and 5000K is really a preference, and with the CBI's loss of output is no longer a concern. Like I said, the 85122+'s provide me some good output, but the color just looks too close to halogen for my liking.
