Sputter
Sputter
2007 Nissan Maxima. Randomly will sputter when start then fade out and run fine. Other times sputtering will not stop. If try drive get little acceleration and SES light will blink then stay on.
Was hooked up to reader said Camshaft sensor bad. And a misfire in #4. Replaced Camshaft Sensor. Replaced all 6 spark plugs. Ran fine. Now back to same issue randomly happening...at times when sputtering is a faint smell of gasoline. Injectors have been cleaned. What could ithe issue be??

Thanks for reply...I had taken to garage to have checked..do not have the codes. Was not rechecked after replaced. Was not aware is more than 1 Camshaft Sensor? Where would the other be located? How many of these sensors are in the car?

Where does the smell come from - from the exhaust or from under the hood?
If it is from the exhaust, then the bad coil pack could explain it as 1 cylinder sends un-burnt gasoline down the exhaust pipe.
If it is from under the hood, then the bad coil pack would have nothing to do with it and the most likely reason is a dried up and loose fuel hose somewhere around the fuel rails sipping gasoline.
I had the latter issue on my 1993 Maxima during the cold season until I bought the short hose which connected fuel rails together and replaced it.
Move your coil packs around cylinders and see if misfire follows. If it does, then you found your culprit.
