CVT “downshifting” on Highway

So I’ve had my 07 SE Maxima for a full year and its been giving me issues preventing me from driving on the highway. If I go 70+ mphs for a period of time the car would “downshift” with the rpms shooting up to 4500-6000, I’d have to put it in neutral, coast it down to 55mph then put it back in drive for the rpms to drop back down to normal if they do at all. If it doesn’t I’d have to get off the highway and drive on the roads going no more than 50mph. It currently has 205k miles. I’ve searched all over the forums for these specific symptoms with no luck.

The codes I have are p0111, p0420, p0430. I’ve searched the forum regarding these codes reading threads from start to finish but I don’t see anyone mentioning anything similar my symptoms. The cats are definitely toast but would they affect the cvt in this particular way? Would the solenoid affect how the cvt knows what “gear” to be in?

I think you should address the codes, namely, the cats and the MAF sensor.

I apologize I wrote the “Intake Valve Timing control Bank 1” code number incorrect it wasn’t p0111. The replacement catalytic converters are on the way. Which solenoid is bank 1? Left or right? Is the variable valve timing control solenoid the same thing?

It's the same. I'm not too sure of the orientation of the banks, however. One way you could determine this is to unplug the harness of each solenoid and see which throws up P0021 to identify bank2.
See this:
Watching this I guess bank1 should be the left side as it's close to the firewall. Part number is 23796-EA22B. Part number for bank2 is 23796-EA22A

Did you scan the transmission (TCM)?

I'm afraid not. You'd need a tool with a higher capability.

I'm not familiar with a specific scanning tool. As far as I know, codes from all modules are stored in the ECU. I got TCM tranny codes from OBDII when my speed and turbine tranny sensors were toast. I don't think a separate tool is required, not how it works.

Yes, I think you're right to the extent that in a 6th Gen, for example, the TCM is linked to the ECM to light up the SES lamp. It's not correct, however, that all modules are so connected with the ECM. A code for an intelligent key (controlled by the I-Key module) in a 6.5 Gen, for example, will not light up the SES lamp.

Worn motor mounts?...my 03 would do that but not to the degree you mention here.
