Like you, once the hot weather gets here, I invariable throw on some ventshades (if I haven't already put them on), so I will probably be ordering them very soon.

I'm sure you saw that the part number is 94017, and the brand name is AVS and then I assume you displayed the authorized dealers in your area. I have found that, especially on a newly introduced part, I usually have to order. This could be done over the phone at any authorized AVS dealer, but I have been doing it through my Nissan dealer. If you hit 'add to basket' on any of the various lundinternational screens, it gives you the chance to set up an account, through which you should be able to order anything at any time.

I have talked to the folks at the place where these shades are made (northeast of Atlanta), and they have always been very friendly and helpful, even sending me a package of double-stick vent tape free when I needed to re-attach a shade I took off.

I don't know if this has been asked, but does anyone know how to cut off the warning screen on the Navigation? I know it's for my safety, but I can't stand not being able to cycle thru addresses unless I'm at a complete stop. Just curious. I guess I can live with it...

I have installed the splash guards for the 2009 Max. The job is very easy. The only holes to been drilled are on the rear ,and the holes are pre drilled. You cannot mess up. I did not even lift the car. If anyone has any questions let me know and I can help you out.

And the two screws that hold the splash guards to the inside of the wheel well can also be used to hold an abbreviated mud flap for those who want to actually keep some of the grime off the side of the car (the OEM splash guards are mostly for looks). Since I made and installed black plastic flaps behind all four wheels, the side of my car stays cleaner.

Edit - And for those who are thinking 'semi-type flaps', mine drop only 2 1/2 inches below the front splash guards, and only 3 inches below the rear splash guards, and are not really noticable.

WARNING - '09 Vent Visors NOT yet available. Error on their website.

I wrote the VentShades part number down that was shown for the '09 Maxima on the VentShades website (bothered a little by the illustration showing a 6th gen Maxima), and was prepared to order a set. But the part number - 94017 - kept ringing a bell in my head. Finally, I stepped into the storage room and looked at the box my ventshades for my '04 Maxima came in, and the part number was 94017. That was bad news.

I called the company, and talked to customer support. She said the VentShades website had not been maintained very well since the Lund Corp bought them out. She asked for the part number listed for the '09 Maxima, and when I read it to her, she confirmed that was the number for the '04-'08 Maxima shades. She was fairly sure the '09 shades were still 'in the works'.

I will continue to check this every week or so.

That would explain why I contacted several stores locally and asked and they kept telling me "not available".

The AVS site (Auto Ventshade) now shows a new part number for vent shades for the '09 Maxima. After wrongly advertising part # 94017 as being ventshades for the '09 Maxima (they were actually for the '04 thru '08 Maxima), the site now says part # 94100 is the correct number for the ventshades for the '09 Maxima.

They are a four piece set, smoke color (they look almost black from outside the car, but you can see thru them from inside the car), and attach to the outside of the door just over the windows with MMM double-stick tape. AVS went away from the style that fits inside the window channel years ago, because they said the newer cars have tighter window channels. I have used the outside double-tape stick-on AVS shades for almost fifteen years, and actually prefer them to the old channel type.

AVS is now owned by Lund International, and prefers customers use http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...ernational.com to access AVS products, but I find I can still go to http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...oventshade.com, just like in the old days.

I will be getting these, and will post here what I find.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but figured "Accessories" was a good place. I emailed this guy....He says $100 for '09 Maxima tailights. He's in NJ.

---------------------------------------------VENT SHADE REPORT---------------------------------------------------------

EDIT - I ordered the VentShades mentioned above through a local trim shop that was listed on the VentShade site as an official VentShade outlet back on March 26, picked them March 29, and installed them March 30. Here are my thoughts:

1 - The VentShades for the '09 are sold for around $88 (uninstalled) by most VentShade authorized trim shops. I prefer to install them myself.

2 - These '09 VentShades are not as perfect a fit as those I have been putting on my Maximas for well over a decade. The edges do not run a constant distance from the edge of the door. Not a bad fit, but not perfect.

3 - VentShades are smoke colored, and mount on the doors just above the windows. On previous Maximas, the top part of the doors was black, and the vents mounted inconspicuously, smoke on black. On the '09, however, the top part of the doors is chrome, and the shades are more noticable. Not as 'slick' looking an installation as smoke on black.

4 - These '09 shades work well, keeping all water from inside the car, even with all windows rolled down around two (even three) inches. They do what they were designed for.

5 - My only serious complaint is that these '09 VentShades cause more wind noise than previous VentShades. The noise begins around 35 to 37 mph, and is very noticable by around 40 mph. I found it loud enough to be annoying. It doesn't get a lot louder at higher speeds than it already is at 40, but I do not like wind noise. I noticed that when the wipers are going, and the big blade on the driver's side is near the left side edge of the windshield, the noise abates until the blade starts back across the windshield. With that as a 'hint' that I may be able to reduce the noise, I am trying lots of different sizes and shapes of 'wind baffles' (mostly using hard black rubber trim intended for use on the sides of vehicles, or around the wheel wells) just in front of the VentShades, and have managed to reduce the noise somewhat, but not to the level I am hoping for.

I will report any further developments with these VentShades.

How about pictures? Do you have any of your ventshades or those folks with their own version of mudflaps.

Sam - I haven't replaced my broken camera. Maybe someone else here has these vent shades. These for the '09 Maxima are smoke colored, and very simple in design; nothing fancy about them. If you have seen smoke ventshades on other cars, these look the same.

It took me until earlier this week to finally find the right combination of shapes with the baffles I have added to the side of the car near the outside mirrors that would quiet the wind noise from these vent shades. I'm not wild about the black rubber baffles mounted against chrome, but I will sacrifice sleek for comfort on long drives.

The primary baffles are a pair of 18" long strips of hard rubber molding about 3/4" wide (width can vary somewhat), with sort of a wedge shape - the thickness should be fairly thin on one edge, but nearer a half inch on the other. One of these is mounted on each side of the car, on the chrome facing of the top edge of the front doors, running parallel with the bottom edge of the chrome, and reaching from the front door sill (front end of the chrome door piece) upward to a spot well above the mirrors. The thin edge should be at the front (top), and the wide edge at the back (bottom). This tends to divert the airflow outward, slightly further from the side of the car (and further from the vent shades).

I carefully trimmed these pieces to fit exactly, and they are barely noticable. I am very happy with the results (much less noise), but can easily understand why this setup would not be right for many here.

I have a hard time trying to visualize that. Since you don't have a camera, does your cell phone? Just thinking outside the box. Thanks for replying.

Hi,

First time poster, long time snooping around. I also have the ventshades. I had the same issues Light had. Since I don't have many posts, I can't attach the pics directly, but they are in my photo gallery.

Overall, they are nice. However, the wind noise is a little irritating. And the chrome background warrants a perfect fit, and you will rarely get it. But I still like them.

Sam, you need to realize you are talking to a person who still uses the slide rule he used in high school and college in the 1940s and 1950s. I still think in terms of Studebaker, Tucker, Henry-J, DeSoto, Pierce-Arrow and Terraplane. My 'technical advance' is a calculator I bought in the 1970s. My cell phone has no features, as it is seldom used. I have it only so the security company can reach me immediately if an alarm goes off on my property, and so my wife and I can communicate in the event we are in different locations (which isn't often).

Fortunately, we have a newbie (compucat) who has these same ventshades installed, and has a camera. All we need is to know how to reach his photo gallery.

I really need to get me a camera.

Astute observation. They did nothing to protect the side of my car, but are certainly slick-looking.

I don't like the outside of the window look much. I wonder when somebody will develop a "inside the window channel" visors for our car. I have already contacted http://www.weathertech.com/ to give them a nudge, to make some. Maybe you guys should as well.

Here is a pic of my old car, with it's visor in channel.

Thanks for the link.

Honestly, from a looks only point of view, having them attach on the outside (no inside channel) is not a big deal. My biggest issue is that they don't extend completely on the rear windows. It mainly only covers the moving rear window, not the sealed part next to it.

As far as wind, like Light said, once you hit about 35 mph you hear it. I like driving on the highways with the windows down. At 65 mph, the wind noise is loud. I need the radio up to about 25 level just to hear it.

Yep; yours look just like mine. And thanks to 09Maxima_Sam for giving me a link. I may have mounted mine a quarter of an inch lower as a strip of chrome shows along the top edge of mine, all the way across.

The reason they weren't extended further along the rear window is that, once these things begin bending downward to follow the lines of the back window, they become air foils, catching lots of air, and making lots of noise for the back seat passengers. Worse, with enough high-speed driving, they eventually pull away from the car. I have had that happen. The solution would be to extend the part that sticks to the car all the way to the end of the window, but flatten the part that sticks out and deflects the rain as soon as it has passed the part of the window that opens.

I did not mind the fact these things stuck to the outside of the doorframe when the doorframe was black, and the vent shades flanges were virtually invisible. But against the chrome, this doesn't look as good. Until I finally developed a baffle that dropped the wind noise way down, I was debating taking these things off when cool weather arrived this fall.

I'm still waiting to a Max with those awful bumper protector strips - the huge ribbed ones. Oh and those dime-store looking fake vents for the front fenders...it's only a matter of time.

I installed these on my '09 about 16 months ago. These shades are for practical purposes more than for looks. I have put vent shades on my last four Maximas.

These stick to the OUTSIDE door frame surface. Some shade manufacturers make models designed to fit INSIDE the window channels, but the channels on the 7th gen Maxima are too tight to fit a shade in.

The ad says these have a partial chrome overlay for the ones being installed on chrome surfaces (and the surface along the top of our Maxima doors is chrome), but I evidently got an early version that does not have the chrome. These shades look black from outside the car, but they are smoked plastic, and you can see throught them from inside the car.

My early version was not an exact fit, but by being very careful as I installed the shades, I was able to line them up fairly well. I am very careful to attach the rear door shades very tightly, as those slope down at the rear, hence tend to 'catch wind' at higher speeds, and came loose on my '04 Maxima (I re-attached them with fresh two-sided tape with no trouble)

I did notice a slight increase in wind noise at speeds over 40 MPH after installing these shades, and so spent several weeks playing around with black hard rubber baffles and deflectors which I mounted on the window frame just above the outside mirrors until I found a shape, size and placement that lowered the wind noise.

In the 16 months since I installed these shades and baffles, I have had no trouble with them, and they allow me to open all four windows by several inches whenever I am leaving the car in full sunlight on a hot day. And every day in June was very hot where I live.
