How much did you pay? *New car shopper*
i test drove a few maxima yesterday , sv with sport and tech, wow was i very very impressed with the car all around. Nissan did a gret job on this car. i have a honda accord now and im considering the Maxima. The car was very fast ( and lets say i really beat on the car test driving it, cornering, acceleration and all) , i could not believe what good power it had, the sport suspension was great on cornering and handling bumpy roads. Seats were very well designed, stereo- one of best in its class i would say. i really like the shift paddles and the S mode drive. great car. the one i drove was $37,300, im looking to make a deal at $32k plus ttl...
does anyone know if Nissan has a $750 incentive going on ?? edmunds is showing it does ,dealer i went to said NO

edmunds was showing the $750 incentive when I bought mine too. The dealer never exactly confirmed it, but I bought it for $1100 under what edmunds showed as dealer invoice. There must have been something in there for the dealer...
There is also $900 holdback on the car. 3% holdback....
whit,
Can you explain "holdback" and how you found out about it? I've heard of it before, but never understood how it works. I just know that dealers are not going to lose money selling a car, and I've bought several "below invoice".

I think edmunds has pretty good explanation, just follow the link

When the '09 Maxima came out back in June, the holdback on the 'S' was $537 and on the 'SV' was $586. That was 2% of the prices at that time. There was around an $800 increase in Maxima prices back in October, so the current holdback will be slightly over $600, UNLESS Nissan possible changed the holdback to 3% because of the awful economy? I don't know if that has happened.

BTW, Just saw a TV commercial last night that seemed to indicate special financing on the Maxima and Murano. I didn't get the details, but anyone still in the market may want to check it out.
(Edit)
I may be wrong about the financing. Edmunds shows an ad for a $329 39 month lease on a Maxima, and that was in the commercial I saw. So maybe I just thought it had a deal on buying too. Sorry for the confusion.

when i negotiated on a sv sport with the dealer, i asked him about the holdback , and he said it was 3%, $900 on a $30k car . i was negotiating a deal for a friend on a maxima. the msrp was $35,600, we got the dealer down to $31,500 plus ttl...i think we can do alittle better
whit,
You might want to check out carmax.com. They have a Nissan franchise in Maryland, and if you search their new car section for a Maxima, you can see their online price vs. MSRP. Sometimes you can figure out what options they have with the pictures and list price. They only show 5 SV's today, and none at your $35,600 msrp, but they show one with msrp of $34,035 available at $29,778 for comparison. I figure if they can sell for that percentage discount in Maryland, a local dealer can do it too.
Good luck in your negotiations.

I'm curious about something. Since I lease my M35x for 3 years, they sent me a letter stating I was pre-approved for financing or leasing on my next Nissan or Infiniti. That means they don't need to run a credit check because i'm approved up to a certain amount.
The only thing i'm not 100% certain about is the interest rates. They said that when I purchase the car, the dealer would be able to tell me what the interest rate would be. Has anyone ever been approved by Nissan for financing?
Hope to get the car Saturday, but if they pull 8% interest rates, i'm walking.

Interesting thing happened today. I received a Nissan flyer in the mail saying my dealer had buyers wanting used cars such as my '04 SL, and would give me top dollar for that car. Also included (and not part of the trade-in offer) was a certificate for a free oil change. And the final certificate? For $500 off the best deal I could work out with my dealer on any vehicle currently on his lot.
But I traded my '04 SL in last month, and, as part of that deal already have free oil changes. If only they had sent that certificate before I completed my deal . . .
But then heck; money does grow on trees, doesn't it? Or does it?

I'm always skeptical about flyers like the one you received. They're designed to get potential buyers into showrooms and move metal. Even the free oil change is an opportunity to sell you additional service, if you don't buy a new car. The deal you worked out for your new Maxima sounds like a good one; these promos are usually more smoke than substance IMHO.
Light, I haven't found that money tree yet!

The $500 certificate was only good for me personally, was only good at my dealer, was only good on stock already on his lot, and the whole deal (including choosing the vehicle, completing all negotiations, etc, handling all the paperwork, prepping the car and driveout) had to happen before March 2nd. That was only ten days.
I do not deal in that type situation. I worked last spring deciding exactly what I wanted, spent many long summer hours prowling the lots early on Sunday mornings (while the lots were still closed), spent the fall on nissanusa finding the locations of every car equipped exactly as I wanted, and then worked with my salesperson until we reached an aggreement. Time consuming? Yes. But I have precisely the car I wanted at a very fair price. And no regrets.

We can all learn from people with more experience and patience! I got lucky...I walked in, test drove one, negotiated a deal and signed...however 6 months later I want a different package (even though I love the car) and would even like a different color...I jumped in a little too fast. I got over 3k off sticker...which was good back in sept...but I wish I spent more time really thinking over what I wanted before buying. Lesson learned...and I get to enjoy the Maxima while I learn it!
Excellent. Now THAT is the way to go about purchasing a car! I like the mix of using available technology to search inventory and the old fashioned sleuthing to go check it out! In this day and age of immediate satisfaction, sometimes there's a real joy to taking your time in researching and getting EXACTLY what you want.
Of course I saw the '09 up close at the Smyrna factory in March, 2008, and at the Atlanta Auto Show the first week of April, 2008, and pretty much knew exactly what I wanted by then, but I had to see the car equipped like I wanted, and in the color I wanted, and in person, and that did not happen until July.
And we all know the reason I didn't buy in July: my dealer (like many) was dealing from MSRP PLUS a $3,600 'Marketing Adjustment' at that time. My driveout (including sales tax, title, etc) would have been around $44,600.
I actually drew up a graph on which I plotted the value of my trade-in weekly. I obtained that value by averaging three online major used car valuation sources. I also plotted the current selling price of the '09 I wanted by checking the newspaper every day, reading what Maxima.org folks were paying, and looking at the dropping 'Market Adjustment' charge on the stickers at my dealer. Those two lines crossed in October, which meant that was the optimum time to trade for an '09.
But right at that time, the bottom fell out of the stock market, and the economy went south. I decided to hold off, with the feeling dealers would become very anxious to deal within a few months. And they did.
Ok so I've been to my dealer a few times now trying to cut a deal, now here's my situation. I have 5 payments of $320 left on my 06 altima se premium, my dealer called me today telling me their willing to cut a deal for a sport+tech for about $400-415 a month. Now this is with no down payment just taxes and fees and this is for a lease. Should I go for it?

I'd say that car companies are very cautious now with estimating end of lease value. The best deals are for straight buy.
Well, my baby has arrived today.
I originally negotiated to get a Winter Frost with Charcoal interior Sport + Tech, but after reading multiple reviews on this board about how pretty the White looked with the Black Dual Panel roof, I decided to see one for myself in person.
One look at this car and I knew it was coming home with me. My Sport + Tech was negotiated down to $33.5K, so my salesman just added $700 additional for a total of $34.2K, which is not too bad. So here I have a Winter Frost/Charcoal Premium with Splash, Mats, and the spoiler (it was on the car already), which gives it that additional little aggressive pop.
The car rides phenomenally. It definitely uses some suspension components from the M35/45 line because it rides almost idential to my M35x, but just a tad smoother. Bumps are much more sileneced than on my M35x. Road imperfections now just created a hushed thud, rather than a moderate banging type of noise (am I getting old or something, I actualy prefer a quiet ride now?
).
The CVT. This i'm going to have to get used to with time. It is extremely smooth and knows just the right gear. My M used to buck and hop sometimes in the lower gear ranges. Driving with the CVT takes some understanding because in cars with normal automatics, if you depress the accelerator, Revs build up until you've reached your desired speed. Not so on the CVT. When you depress the accelerator, Revs climb a little, but then the CVT programming immediately changes the gear (I know, no gears on a CVT) ratio, which makes the Revs fall, and from what I can hear, the engine starts to lug slightly. Really disconcerting when you expect the engine speed to go higher as you're accelerating.
Now that I understand the logic, I can appreciate the idea behind this transmission and now know what to expect out of it. Notice if you depress the accelerator a little bit more than normal, the engine speed will stay higher slightly longer before dropping the engine speed. Pretty cool.
Amazingly enough for my first tank, i'm getting close to 20 mpg. I'll keep a closer eye out on fuel economy but things are actually looking promising in this area.
Well, sorry for the rambling. I just needed to tell my Maxima brethren that I am back in the family full time now. I also must commend Nissan for building such a high quality Maxima, and IMHO, the best Maxima I have ever driven in the last 8 years I've owned them. Nothing out there beats this Maxima in value for the money. Nothing.

MaxMus - Congrats! You have exactly what I have except I have the Latte interior (deep south heat eliminates dark colors) and, at my age, a spoiler would have raised the eyebrows of all my geezer friends, both at Sunday School and the morning coffee get-together at the Krystal. At my age, image is all I have left.
I found the ride quality to be very good, just as you did. Having been hopeful about the possibilities of the CVT for many years, I adapted to it in about five minutes. I absolutely love the lower RPMs in all situations, unless you demand higher ones by depressing the pedal a little more firmly. Lower RPMs means higher MPGs. Yes, the engine is often right at the edge of bucking, but never gives me anything more than a slight tremble.
Like you, I am totally smitten with this beauty.

'09 Max Factory Ordered
Satin White
Premium Package
Navigation Package
Retail: $45,795
Dealer Invoice: $42,142
My Price: $42,500
There is a $750 Nissan dealer credit and $353 Profit built in to the dealer. So reality states the dealer is making $353 as they will never see the $750 cash in hand.
I think it's an all right deal, I'm pretty happy with it. I'd like opinions if possible though

If $CDN 42.5k is the out the door price, you got close to the best prices in the US market.

Since it's going to be a nice day, I think i'm going to cruise around a bit and enjoy the new ride.
Since I will be leasing the taxes will be applied on a per payment basis so this does NOT include Provicial and Federal taxes which would be an additional 12%. So if I were financing or buying it out right, the out the door costs would be $47745.60CDN
For clairification My Price (out the door) is: $42,630 which is inclusive of all levies.

My earlier post had a arithmetic error. I apologize.
If we take your $CDN47.7k out the door price, and take out 12% levies, it reduces to $CDN42.6k. This converts to $US34.1k. This is dead on the best US prices reported on this Board. You may have read about lower prices, but I only consider data from actual sales.
Go forth and lease! Help your economy which will help ours. We need it.
Hey everyone, just picked up my 09 Max. Black with Charcoal leather. Basic SV. (leather, Bose system, power seats, etc). Sticker was $33,300. I shopped around with four local dealers and was able to get it down to $28,800 plus tax, title, and license. Not bad considering they tried to get me to get a S stickered at $30k for $27,400. I thought it was not a bad price at all. Plus they threw in free window tint nd free lifetime car washes. Does this sound like a good deal?

Sounds like a good deal to me. The base MSRP sticker price on the SV is $32,860, so your dealer had added around $400 worth of something. There isn't as much room between MSRP and invoice on on the SV as there is on the loaded Sport and Premium versions. Last time I checked, I think the difference between MSRP and invoice on the SV was around $2700, so $32,860 minus $2700 is still over $30,000, so yes, I feel you are getting the deal you hoped for.
And welcome to the ORG!

Thanks! I am also a Wrangler owner so I am on that forum as well

Yes, I thought I got a great deal. Essentially, my shoppnig around really paid off. The guy I bought it from was very nice. Great dealership overall. So far, I love my Maxima. I looked at the 09 TL, and the dealer literally took off $2k from the sticker and said that was their best offer. No wonder he told me they haven't sold anything all day
.After I test drove the Maxima, I loved it. So far, 200 miles and counting. Plan on chanign the oil around 1k miles. I always change my own oil, so it should be interesting to see if I can change this one. Thanks again!
You may want to check out the thread titled 'Oil Filter Access' lower down on the front page of this 6th gen section. Seems there is a little maneuvering involved in getting to the filter.

I also understand that Nissan uses a high quality oil (esther oil) from the factory. Do you think it would be wise to change out that oil well before the 3750 recommended change?
I have been salivating over the new max for the past several weeks. I finally got it narrowed down to all the options I want and am beginning the internet bidding war. I got my first response for $33,540 out the door. That works out to approx $32 for the car and $1500 in ttl. Anyone think I can go lower?
