I'm a few months shy of the half century mark, but feeling good about the appeal of the ride to you the younger gen. I just gave up a lease on a 2008 Altima 2.5SL with all the bells. Was actually going to pull the trigger on a 10 CTS as I previously owned a 04 CTS prior to the Altima. When I was turning in the Altima lease my sales rep talked me into taking out the GM's ride. I signed a new lease within the Hour. So I'm still in the Nissan family with a 2010 Max with Sport, Monitor and Tech Pkg, WInter Frost Pearl with Charcoal interior. I just order 13 wedge LED bulbs to replace the interior and tag bulbs. Looking forward to the next 3 years with it.

No your right. Sorry about the passing of your father. I also went from an accord to the Maxima like you did. (just not from a crash) I think quite a bit of people here did

I liked the speed and handling of an '06 Mazda 6 that I owned before buying my first Maxima. I switched b/c the kids were starting to get tall enough that the back seat in the Mazda just wasn't very comfortable. I have loved both new Maximas that I've owned starting in 2008. Fast & fun to drive, but I must say that the 2010 Max SV Sport is even more addicting than my '08 was. (I may end up with a fist full of speeding tickets this year, just like when I got my first turbo-charged Volvo... :- )

Thumbs up

34. Traded in an Audi A6 S Line for the Maxima. Can't say I'm disappointed with the purchase at all. The Maxima performs and handles as well if not better while offering a much, much better value and reliability. Audi was the worst car I ever owned. So many problems and so much $$$ to both buy and repair. I get to sit back and simply enjoy the Maxima!

Requiem, if you don't mind a bit of curiosity, how did you and the Accord fare in that collision? What hit you?

I'm 34 and this is my second Maxima, my first was a 1990 Maxima GLE. I traded a 2008 Ram for my 2010 Maxima SV so there is really no comparison there. I was looking at a 2010 Cadillac CTS-V before landing on the Maxima. While the Maxima may not be able to catch the CTS-V, it was half the price and meets or exceeds the CTS is every other category.

I don't know about the government's official safety rating of the 7th gen Maxima, but Consumer Reports gives the 7th gen Maxima orange ***** (top rating) for frontal collision for both driver and passenger.

27 here. First brand new car I've ever owned. I was checking out the 07-08 Maxima SE's for a few years before I decided on the 7th gen. The first time I saw the 2009 Maxima on the road, I wasn't really impressed. Didn't like the way they cut the hood lines, etc. After a year, it really grew on me and I bought one the day after Easter this year.

In regards to the previous cars, it's been a Government Motors kind of past:

1981 Pontiac Bonneville (small block 305) - First car (grandma's car) SOLD
1998 Chevy S-10 (4.3L Vortec with a few mods)- Totalled in 2003
1988 Volvo 740 Turbo (Parents beater car with 160,000 miles which still hauled @$$)
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Coupe (3.8L Gen II) Sold in Apr-2010 with fragged 4th gear in the trans.

The 2010 Maxima actually gets 5-star crash safety ratings in every category (front, side, rollover). With how fast I drive, probably a good thing!

I was actually hanging out with a 370Z group last weekend and a few of the guys noted how my Maxima headlights look similar to their headlights with that little hook on the side. The 370's tails do look similar to the headlights as well.

I turned 50 earlier this year. This is my first brand new car since I was 26 (an '86 Toyota MR2). My other car is a 2003 Infiniti G35, which I have really enjoyed and still love (keeping it for now). I have to echo the comments of some other "mid-century" types like me -- I was pleasantly surprised to find so many other Max owner are shy of 30! I didn't realize this decision was so hip! I considered a new G37, but to tell you the truth, the interior had stayed the same in so many ways, I thought it would feel like getting into my old car. I do like the exterior all right (on the G), but the Max body has caught my eye for the last year -- and at the same time, there aren't that many of them on the road (around here at least, way more Altimas). I really think they nailed it -- aggressive character without getting gimmicky or overstating anything -- tough to do. I think it will age well, and I hope (like Inifiniti) they don't mess with it too much over time. It's nice to have a 5 or 6 year old car that still looks as good as new -- not just with respect to condition, but with regard to the design. Infiniti has passed this test, but Nissan has not (if you disagree, just look at the 6th gen Maxima -- that will NOT look good in five years, in fact, I'd suggest it doesn't look good right now). As with many other posters, I feel the CVT, at least with respect to the programming of the computer that controls it, could stand some improvement. But overall, a terrific car that I'm excited to own.

Congrats on the new purchase! I could agree with you more on the points you have made all except I think the rear of the 6th gen looks sexy still. Welcome to the Forum
