Transmission Problem

I have a 2010 maxima sv, I have had it since 2012. A couple of months ago my car stopped running. I left my house on the way to work and shortly after I started hearing a winding noise coming from the front of the car, I ignored it since I was in a hurry to get to work. Less than half a mile away I slowed down at a stop sign and when the coast was clear I stepped on the gas to keep going and my car wouldn't accelerate. I pressed on the gas all the way and it didn't work. The rpm went up but there was no acceleration. When the car stopped I tried putting it in reverse and it wouldn't move either way. I checked my tranny fluid and it was good, I check the oil fluid and it was also good. The car has 140k miles and the last time I did the CVT oil change was at 70k. I figured it was time to change it. A few days later I drained the CVT fluid and changed the CVT oil filter that is inside the the transmission oil pan cover and replaced the gasket. I looked around for any signs of broken parts or excess wear and didn't find anything not even metal shavings in the magnets. Everything went well and after I finished I took it out for a spin. When I first started it I heard the same winding noise that I heard the day it went out but this time it slowly went away. The car worked and I took it for a drive. I stopped for gas on the way back home and when I was leaving the gas station it did it again. It wined for a second and then when I put it on drive it wouldn't move. I tried reverse and nothing. Again the rpm went up but the car didn't move. I am not sure what else I can do or check. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

I had a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder come into the shop that had similar symptoms as yours does but it was stuck in limp mode. Turns out the valve body had to be replaced and reprogrammed. Have you tried to put it into manual mode and see if that helped the situation?

It does sound like CVT but it could also be your alternator. Check you connections and voltages. Our 7th gens do weird things when the voltages are too high or low.

Doesn't sound like good news to me. Get a tool with the capability to scan the transmission.

Do you have any lights on the dash? CEL? Brake light?
Have you hooked a code scanner and see if you have any fault codes? Are you a "heavey" footed driver on the peddle?
When was the CVT fluid change at 70k miles?

When in N, engine revs fine to redline?
As stated above, could well be a valve body going out. Likely a transmission problem.
Although things like alternator, MAF, or battery should be ruled out.

This car, from all the experiences, needs a D/R of CVT fluid every 20k to 30k miles.

Agree I do mine every 30k.

Yes, I tried that but no luck.

I didn't think about that. I will definitely check it out

CEL is on but I haven't checked it yet. I will do that soon. I an heavy footed and the CVT change was sometime in 2016. At first the revs we're get up to red line but now it stops at about 4-5k. Thanks for the tips I will get these things checked

If it's letting you shift up and down then the valve body and gear selector control module should be working correctly, otherwise you'd stay in a single gear. The torque converter is another possibility. I haven't tried a stall test on a CVT transmission but specs for the stall speeds (RPM) are 2700 to 3500 RPM. If it doesn't reach those speeds during stall test then the converter is bad, but I would get the check engine light scanned first prior further diagnostics.
