I'd be really surprised if an insurance company considers this totaled

If the front Apron is kinked , then yes it is frame damage... Core support is a bolt on so that would be ok... Also if that front frame rail is kinked it is frame as well..

If you can get a picture with the hood up and get a good shot of that left apron I could tell for sure..

I think it is borderline but with only 21 K miles on the clock and no airbags deployed,, bet they elect to fix it. Sorry for the accident but is is a good one when you all walk away

Bluebook on that car is probably above $25k without looking up features and guessing. I'd say you'd have to be above 60-80% or have a qualifying issue that prevents a fix regardless of cost. So if you're at even say $12,000 in repairs, it ain't totaled. I'm gonna guess just with aquick look, not knowing all the parts damaged, you're at $7000, It doesn't even look like the drivers door got damaged.

Yesterday afternoon I had an idiot dart from a driveway to my right, cut me off through two lines of traffic and a divider to turn left onto the opposite lanes of traffic. This while I was going 60 mph on a state highway and I had just picked up the phone (hands free but still a distraction). I slammed on the brakes and barely avoided him, then I realized that fortunately the guy behind me, also going 60, had done the same thing. I have never ever been this close to an accident - either T-boning someone or being rear-ended. I was very lucky. It's unbelievable how stupid some people are.

I have never seen more drivers in the "heads down" position at stoplights and even while on the road. Stoplight changes, driver is in another world texing to someone about what they had for lunch rather than driving the car!

Oh no, those pictures are painful to see. Wishing you the best on a full return of value, whether it's a fix or replacement.

No doubt. I've been nearly caught up in more wrecks in the last 6+ years since I moved to Texas than I even witnessed for my first 15 years of driving in the Chicago and Indianapolis areas. Distracted driving seems to be a prime sport in the DFW area where the number of highways and merges makes it even more necessary to stay on your toes! With regard to the OP's incident, I think that will end up repaired. I'd rather be totaled out, frankly, since even a moderate wreck like this will influence resale and could cause the car never to drive right again.

They do at least have to pay me diminished value on top of the repair if they fix it. But... I agree. I'd rather it be totaled. It'll never be the same.

Same. I've lived in Chicagoland for many years now (too many to count), but I also lived for 4.5 years in Houston, 10+ years ago. I totally understand what you mean (much worse there than here). As for OP's car I agree, I hope it is totaled.

Yes you are definitely totaled if you have USAA and be happy that you are I wouldn’t want anybody to fix that that’s a mess right there my car was totaled when I got hit from the front it wasn’t that much but they sure as hell did me a favor by totaling it. I had another Tuscan Red Maxima in 2009 got hit like that they repaired it and it wasn’t right the damn bumper was shaking and everything it was repaired by Nissan. I went back four times. I would rather have it totaled and get another one than have to deal with that mess.

Well.... The initial estimate to repair from the insurance appraiser is just over $10,000. That does notnjnclude diminished value. My body shop has not seen the estimate yet. We will see if it can actually be done for that or if it is worse.

Diminished value claim typically is from the at fault insurance only. In that your insurance company will not subrogate that function. They will subrogated your collision and deductible claim, but not diminished value. You gotta reach out to the other side.

**** 10,000 initially...that's steep! I didn't realize there was that many parts damaged!

Every time I get a quote it ends up being 25-90% more expensive.
My Acura RL was supposed to be $12k but finished out at $22k + $3.5k DV.

I see the circles on your bumper so I assume you have emergency braking?

What did that do? I know in this case the crash was unavoidable since she turned into you, just wondering how the emergency braking reacted.
Were you actually moving at the time?

I honestly don't know if it did anything. It happened so fast I didn't notice whether it beeped or didn't or if it locked the brakes. It may be that since I hit her offset the sensor didn't pick it up.

They are fixing it. Still at the shop. I should. Get it back next week so we will see. Bill is just over $10,000 right now.

Thanks for the update! Here is to hoping is comes back flawlessly. Be sure you have them change the engine and cabin air filters after the very dusty stay in the repair shop. Everyone overlooks this much needed service after an accident. Check back with your thoughts once the car comes home.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about it and see it. Car will sadly never be the same again in wrecks like that.
