Fully loaded car, CVT slipping

I was traveling in Virginia on some very steep hilly roads with the family in my fully loaded 2017 Maxima with 40,000 miles with luggage etc. I went to pass an 18 wheeler on a steep uphill incline doing about 45mph. I was probably almost full throttle to get around the truck and started to feel a shuddering, jolting or slipping of the transmission around 60 mph so I let off the gas a bit and the shuddering stopped. I'm thinking that was the CVT slipping? This is the first time I've ever felt anything like this with this car and I've full throttled it many times but without all the weight in the vehicle. I'm guessing it was too much load for the transmission. Anyone else ever experience this type of behavior from the car? I have a 2007 Altima with a CVT and I've always hammered in the hell out of that car and I've never experienced any slippage.

Probably off to the dealer. Thanks in advance for the input.

This sounds like a case of the weakest link of this car failing. Hopefully you have an extended warranty? Keep us posted on the diagnosis and dealer willingness to work with you.

Do you know what grade of gas you were using at the time? Sounds suspiciously like timing retard in a CVT.

I do have the extended warranty and I always use premium fuel.

Extended warranty shouldn't matter at 40k. Fuel grade shouldn't matter either. It's probably the transmission, and it sounds like the car may have been well over the 900lb load limit.

I agree with you. I had 4 adults in the car. I'm gonna wait a bit before I make an appointment.

Let's get real here. 4 adults at 200 lb. each plus 100 lbs. of luggage is 900 lbs., and you think you were well over 900 lbs.?

Well any weight limit published by Nissan probably assumes relatively flat ground. The OP said it was a very steep hill, he was going full throttle, and he had a full car. This ain't no 4x4 Land Rover. Hopefully you didn't shred your transmission, it sounds like you were already pretty hard on it before this took place

It should be taken care of by Nissan nonetheless.
