Choppy / laggy backup camera with 2023 Maxima
Hi all,
I recently purchased a used '23 Maxima SV and the backup camera has been driving me crazy. I took my car back to the dealership for them to take a look at it but they either don't see the issue or don't want to. My backup camera functions and the picture clarity is fine when I'm not moving the vehicle, but the video signal feels very choppy when I'm actually backing up and it feels unsafe or untrustworthy. It looks to me like the video is pausing or stuttering 1-3 times a second or so and like the framerate is increasing and decreasing during that time.
I've been a gamer forever and fly FPV quadcopters, so I think I am a little sensitive to framerate changes and video latency, but I've never noticed any issues of this sort with any other vehicle I've driven. We have a 2015 Murano as well, and it is dramatically better in comparison when it comes to the video feeling smooth and live. The first person at the dealership that took a look said he saw what I was talking about, but the other two guys couldn't seem to see the stuttering and their consensus was it was normal or that there wasn't a problem. I've tried to record some videos of what I'm seeing but I can't hold my phone steady enough while backing up to actually record it. It's driving me crazy though so I'm tempted to spend some evenings rigging up a means to test and measure this more objectively and compare to other vehicles. I tried changing camera settings and giving the head unit a factory reset but no significant improvements with that.
If anyone has similar experiences or knows a way to fix this I would greatly anything you have to share
