Anyone have a side-by-side pic of the FWD VQ35 LIM and the 350Z LIM?

Height, they are the same height. The ports do not match at all though.

As of today:

I took IceY2K1's advice, and shaved a hump off of the front of the manifold, and now I might not even need hood spacers!

Things left to do:
-Run VC breather hoses
-Make a throttle cable mount
-Extend TPS harness

AWESOME....this is great news for the sleeper crowd.

I just hope there is enough clearance for the motor rocking, but a set of ES mounts should help take care of that.

That is a Maxima valve cover. To use it I had to shave some off of the middle plenum, and shave some off of the oil cap.

This is the hump I shaved:

What is 'they' that you claim are bigger? It certainly isn't the port sizes, which take different shapes givving the appearance of size differences.

From my observations, the ports on the ZLIM are the same size as the "large" ports on the 2k2 IM. Every other port on the 2k2 IM is a bit smaller.

Interesting....

Nismo3112...when are you going to dyno? Also, were the ports equal and aligned perfectly with the heads?

correct the 350z are alll the smae but the maxima lower has different size ports. the easiest way to see that is what i did was take the gasket that goes between the lower and upper and put it on the 350z or take the same gasket from the 350z and put it on the maxima lower. you will see a difference in size.

you could have asked me that.

the ports on the 350z lower im are a perfect match for the maxima heads.

Yes, VTC vs. no VTC...I hope you switch to a G35S ECU to see what happens.

Do you have headers?

current mods for me are intake and exhaust and 17 degree timing and de-k injectors. no headers as of yet and i am also looking into a tunning device before i hit they dyno next month.

yeah i see you be on the 350z forums trying to pick up harnesses. i was thinking about emange though cause it is possible to make the 350z ecu work but stupid nissan changed soo much that an emange unit would be a better option

For $100 new...I be a pu$$y then. Luckily, I can get EU harnesses for less and just swap the EU back-n-forth.

Melted coils FTL.... No timing advance FTL...

But for AF tuning that is a good price, I will give you that much

They aren't necesarily smaller. The entry angles between the banks is different. What you're looking at are cross sections of the similarly shaped ports cut at different angles.

Yeah if one bank was smaller, wouldnt it be leaner? Wouldn't that show up on the widebands or the ECU throwing a code?

Only if the smaller ports didn't have compensating (higher) air velocities to deliver equal air masses to each cylinder. But that would cause a different set of problems altogether.

Each bank is trimmed independently.

Probably a few hours late, but here are a few pics to illustrate what you guys have been talking about

350Z on the right. Yes they are the same height.

Top view. 350Z on the bottom. I will get out the bore gauges tomorrow to see what the actual flow areas are.

The next two pics are meant to show how much more of a straight thru shot that the flow path is in the 350Z LIM. I adjusted the camera angle to maximize the "visible" port area on the other side of the LIM

The first one is the FWD LIM

Notice how the 350Z path below is much straighter.

These last two pics are just closeups of the head ports.

Notice on the 350Z port below there is a small machined step on the inboard lip. It only goes about halfway around the port circumference.
It is on the wrong side of the port to prevent flow separation so there must be another reason. Any ideas?
