2000 DE-K: Pre-6/99 vs. post-7/99?

Anyone know the difference between the pre-6/99 and post-7/99 manufacturing dates for 2000 model year Fed-spec VQ30DE-Ks?

Is it anything that'd affect swappability into a 4th gen?

Swirl vavles in the lower IM(post 7/99).

I thought only Cali-spec models had swirl valves?

I have seen swirl valves on one post 7/99 Fed DEK, though the production date on that engine may have been listed wrong. All the pre 6/99 Fed DEKs I have seen all have had swirl valves. Best bet is to look at the motor before you buy. If the VIAS actuator has two nipples it's got swirl valves.

There's nothing that would affect the swapability of any model year DE-K into a 4th gen.

that is true, but with a 95 ecu you can go without egr.

and if you have the swirl valves, you can always remove them and jbweld the holes

True you can get any DEK, but as people have said the 01s don't have EGR and some '00s have swirl valves which is just more work to remove.

DEK engine count - 3

Again I think the yards confuse the production date and the pre and post stuff seems almost irrelivant. You have to go by the damn VIN # of the car to get the exact specs.

Well, maybe the shop I got the engine from had bad data, but the engine definitely has butterfly valves. Bummer. It was supposed to be a >7/99 Fed spec.

EDIT: It's still awesome though.
