6x8s or 6x9s

Sorry if this has been posted but...
Has anybody managed to mount 6x8s or 6x9s on their rear deck to replace the factory speakers? I think I'm going to try doing it. I was originally planning on doin some cutting, but a friend suggested I could just build/buy some boxes and mount em up higher. Any suggestions, comments, criticisms? Thanks.
