amp recommendations
Hey ppl..
im planning on installing 2 12" w7 subs in my trunk.. i had a few qustions about amps..
how many watts can these subs take without blowing in the future? (750 is rec. by jl audio)
i dont know much about amps.. and i needed a few recommendations on which amps can be used with my subs and what the best setup is for them..
if it at all matters:
Alpine CDA-7893
(4) Infinity Kappy 62.5i speakers (75w)

Power handling will dependant on the enclosure. But they should be able to handle 750 in just about any enclosure. Unless they have lowered the quality of the coil or some of the suspension parts. Do those have dual 3 ohm coils, or do you have a choice of configurations?

blkmaxinMD, those 1000.1 amps are pretty long.. i have space considerations and one more amp for my components to worry about too. you sure 1000 watts wouldnt compromise reliability?

Okay, I repeat, power handling is dependant on the enclosure. Smaller can handle more power at the expense of efficiency and low bass extension. http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/RP_Chart.html
It appears the 12W7 is only available with single 3 ohm coil. You can go the expensive route mentioned above or get a single mono amp with high power at 1 ohm. I really would not worry about 1000 watts blowing these subs properly installed.

Dude... before getting those subs you better upgrade those spkeakers to something that wont get overpowered. If you want to stick with JL the get their set of comps and 300/2 to power them with.
As for the power... they will be very happy with 1000Wrms into each.

There have been many people that have run the JL 12W7s off a JBL BP1200.1. That is ~600 watts per sub. It will hit hard. Another option is to get a 13w7 and run it off the same amp. Less space and you will still hit harder than people with more subs. The key on the W7s is the box and the design. Build it exactly to spec and watch it slam!
