Late Night Tip Playing
Box tuned to 30hz
ssf set to 30ish

I changed the ssf so it was lower like 25ish and I fixed some of the settings on the HU, I will make a new video tomorrow...

ah, don't get me wrong, the atlas is still a kick a$$ sub it shares the same xbl2 motor technology from Adire, so you get accurate bass reproduction with little distortion.

Thanks,
That is the OEM JL grill for 12w0 and 12w3v2s. I got it at The Good Guys for $12.00. Hard to beat. It's a nice piece of assurance nothing gonna hit the cone.

Hey, have you guys ever put poly-fil in your enclosures? My box was rattling, so I insulated it with poly-fil and it sounds nice and deep. I read somewhere that it "tricks" the woofer think that it's in a bigger enclosure somehow. Just wondering, if you guys have any experience with it.

I always polyfill my enclosures...the stuff is pretty cheap from walmart. If your box is rattling however, polyfil is definitely not the fix for that....

I think it was my speaker wire from the sub to the terminals. Now my box is quieter. That wire can't rattle against the inner wall.

polyfill gives you deeper bass at lower volumes but at higher volumes power handling decreases. plus you dont put polyfill in a ported box? or do you?

I read that you do in a ported bx, except the actual port path or channel.

you can but it lowers the tuning of the box and you have to make sure it does not fly out of the box either.

Yeah it sounds cleaner now. I used elmers spray adhesive so it shouldn't fly out.

Yeah the sub thinks their is more air in the box. Its gotta suck in air through the polyfill kinda like it would if the box were bigger. Hopefully it was just the wiring that rattled not the box cause thats not good.

polyfill slows down the sound waves inside the box, not how air is 'sucked' through it.

Yeah it was the wires inside the box.
The polyfill does get deeper and louder at lower levels.

It actually sounds cleaner. I have my amp running on half the power so the sub isn't too overpowered, the volume is high, the sound is clean, everything's all good.

It seems to be a little more responsive at lower levels, but it's not too noticable.

ever think about putting more polyfill in? and maybe put some sort of a net at the mouth of the port so the stuff doesn't blow out?

I don't really see the benefit of using more polyfill. My box doesn't resonate anymore, and I don't want to work the speaker too hard. I might have to step up to a 12w6v2 or a 12w7 to utilize my amp's power.

I was going to say the same thing. Polyfill doesn't do too much anyway, but if it's going to do ANYTHING at all, you have to put more in there than that. You literally need to loosely pack at least half the cavity with it.

It's cool for now. It's serving it's purpose. I didn't get it to "enhance" the sound output, but rather to make the box more quiet in the trunk.

IMO, some people use polyfill due to poorly designed sub enclosures, design miscalculations, or bad construction. A lot of these ready-made enclosures you find at sound shops are usually poorly made out of cheap materials that is why they are cheap.

I have an SPL ported enclosure (made out of 3/4" MDF), all corners and joints are braced so this box will not flex at all. It doesn't need any polyfilling and my bass sounds "oh so good". As for speaker cables rattling against the wall of the enclosure, that happens when you have too much slack of speaker wire inside the box. Shorten it and you shouldn't have that problem anymore.
