Headunit Installation

How much should I expect the headunit installation to cost at a shop that does audio equipment? The HU is an alpine 9847, nothin too fancy.

Thanks

your going to spend about $80-$130 at a shop...so why don't you just buy a better headunit at circuit city or best buy and let them install it free for any headunit over $99

Or buy a harness for $15 and match up the wires,if not BOSE of course.

I'm all about DIY and a h/u is pretty straightforward...Unless it is the BOSE which I have changed out before using the LOC (line output converter) in an 92 SE and a few GM vehicles and it is a major PITA! Otherwise I say go for it. If you order your deck from Crutchfield or Cardomain they'll give you the harness and if needed dash kit (like for the 4th Gen double din) for free. I like to solder everything but crimps will work too. There is a ton of good info on the org regarding installing a h/u.

I just put a new deck in my car last night after work and it only took a few hours, and it would have gone quicker if it weren't for my girl pestering me about other stuff.

i know CC blows big time but i feel that they have done 1 thing right. They made a connector that is car specific and on the other end is a "smart harness" and a 2nd connector that is HU specific that goes to the other side of this "smart harness". All u do is plug the cd player one into the HU and the car one into that car and just conect the 2 "smart harness's". thats how i've always done mine. except for my new eclipse

I don't think prices will be as high as 80-130 at shops more like 50-60. If you do the wiring outside of the car things will go quicker. I didn't know anything about installing and I just followed the installdr.com instructions and did fine. By the way be sure to cover all the exposed wiring with electrical tape or some butt conectors.

installation of a hu really isnt difficult. All you need is a pocket for the din space left over from installing an aftermarket head unit. The head unit will bolt directly to the stock radio mounting bracket, and all you need is an antenna adapter and a wiring harness. check the audio faq for wire colors, this is where i found everything i needed.
