That looks badass. Great job with the fiberglassing job. I hope if I get to do this, that it will come out as good as this.

I used a lacquer for the pictures that you see listed...I think I am going to try it with an enamel this time, as a few test sprays have show it to be much glossier.

...the downside overall is that the paints I am using DO NOT recommend cleacoating, so I will have to wait and see what I am going to do.

ah i see. well it looks pretty nice right now. if the paint comes out glossy enough then a clearcoat not needed. keep us updated!

ARRRRGGGHHHH...I AM NOT satisfied with this finish. I think I am going to have to sand this down with some 1000-grit and use a 2-stage paint...what a PITA. THIS PROJECT NEVER ENDS!!!!!!

Wet sand and then add a clear coat. Wet sand hte clear with 2000+ grit and use some rubbing compound and polish on the finish.

I agree with Kevlo911. I bet that would give you a nice finish. You primer it and wetsand and primer before you put your first coat on?

Yeah, that thing was sanded as if I were presenting it to a king. I am going to shoot it, I just have to do a bit more research into shooting the peice before I follow through. *sigh*

I'll keep you guys posted, looks like I have no choice but to start the 4-DIN console project today.

Sorry to bring up an old thread here.

This is an awesome combo of creativity and execution....You've got skills with the wood, the glassing, I'm totally jealous of your finishing/ prettyness skills...

A few things that I don't think were answered in this thread. I'm pretty sure that the whole thing is the enclosure, correct? If so, how many layers of mat did you give it? You siad you only used 30 bucks worth of resin and didn't mention the cost of mat that you used (though mat from shopman is dirt cheap ). Also, how large is the enclosure considering it's for a Koda 10? Mainly about how much glass you've given it and size...For a sub enclosure, where you really need to build up structural integrity, knytex is real good, though I do understand you useds 2 oz, not standard 1.5 oz mat. http://www.shopmaninc.com/specialty.html

Anyway, those would be my only concerns. I don't think they've been answered, but if they have, sorry.

Negative. The cutout in the rear is for a 1cuft. sealed box in which the Koda sits.

3 Layers of Resin for the frame
1 layer of Fleece for the body
1 layer of body filler for the body

$30 - Resin
$15 - Body Filler
$20 - Mat
$10 - MDF
$30 - Misc. Supplies

I hope that answers everything! I am going to be shooting this peice and be done with it ocne and for all 2 weeks from today.

Yep. The main concern was about structural integrity. If the "box" is inside there, it doesn't really matter....so perfectamundo IMO !

Thanks, man! I can't wait to get this thing all glossed up and get the EL wire run to the inside groove...I'm still waiting on the stupid inverter to get it powered.

Well, yes, after eons of sanding, I simply used a $5 can of acrylic enamel. Here's what happened:

My g/f was helping me paint some of my interior peices when she oversprayed the enamel on one of the parts...well, this little "Accident" turned out to be a blessing in disguise! By coating it a certain way, you can get a super-glossy wet look using Duplicolor Clear Acrylic enamel! So I simply went back, sanded the rack, reprimed, repainted, and then applied the enamel!

Thanks, Manny! Sadly, the next one will not be as nice, I am simply going to be making an uber-stealth trunk setup. I picked up Derek's Alumapro Alchemy RX's, so suffice to say I am quite excited about getting everyting done. To keep myself sand this year, I am limiting myself to one big project which will be fibgerlassing an AE bodykit to the OEM bumpers for a sleek look.
