The MRD-M501 is a good amp. I have one that I had in my car for a while. I plan on putting it in either my wife's car or back in my car soon (waiting to see which sub she wants to go with first).

I had the crossover (HU had this) and Media Expander (bass compensation) off. The phase at zero degrees (could change this with the HU) and the input voltage on the higher voltage setting. I believe I had the gain factor on the middle setting. I had this connected to my Alpine CDA-7998, and not my current cd player (Eclipse CD8454).

If my wife decides to go with the sub currently in my car, she will also get my Kicker amp, and I will use the Alpine and the SS RL-p12. If not she will get the SS sub and the MRD.

well i tried to order the MRD-M501 today and its on backorder...idk if Alpine is discontinuing it for the newer MRD-M605 or not. that one is 600x1 and im wondering if thats too much power cause my original thoughts were that 550 was already a little too much. maybe ill just get the JL but that one is like another $200 so i really dont want to id rather stick with the Alpine.

Any other suggestions?

A 400-500W amp would b enough. If the sub's RMS is plenty to power it. Those subs r very efficent so it doesn't take much power for them...a 300W. Depending on your voice coil setup, you could use a Orion 600D (400x1 @ 2ohms) or Orion 300D (300x1 @ 1ohm). Very nice amps IMO, but not as bada$$ as the ones they made before Directed bought them out.

yea i'd meet up with ya but im real busy with work lately...thanks for the offer tho. I believe it sounds great tho cause my friend had a W6v2 and it sounded sick. Just tryin to straighten this RMS wattage issue out without buying an overly expensive amp...my last amp was an Alpine D-Class and it was great so id like to stick with Alpine if I could plus its $200 cheaper than the JL 500.1

u ever go to any of the meets around here? i'll probably c you there sometimes i get a chance to stop by them....

That amp is pretty small in size for what it puts out. Very nice for limited space installs .

It is a good amount smaller than my MRD-M501.

I would reconsider your mounting location though. I have read that the vibrations from the box can loosen internal components which is not good for your amp. I know people have done it with no issues, but I would not do it.

yea i just figured id do that since thats how my old system was...i had an MRD-M300 mounted on the left side of my 2 12 in box. My friend had a cool looking amplifier mount he made for his and we were talking about making me one the other day so i guess ill have to decide on what i want to do. I'll also take into consideration what you are saying since i could see that making sense. Thanks allot.
