6.5 or 6x9?

Which is the best option for the rear deck? I have a 92 and am replacing the Bose. I was told that 6.5's are a better option than the 6x9 for the rear deck. Is this true? I want some decent bass.....but can't get a sub for now. What, in your opinion is the best for the back. Feel free to throw out suggections on speakers to look at. (I'll have 6.5 inifinity reference up front)

I'm sure this has been beat to death in here, but I don't really have the time to search..nor do i really care

I'm going to be nice an answer anyway. Music was never intended to be reproduced through a football, but a cone. 6x9s are the modern-day Frankenstein's of music reproduction, stay away from them. All you want for rearfill is to run some decent coaxes in the rear and power off of the HU.

If you want some decent midbass for your car, then focus on a good set of coaxes up front, of bite the bullet and get a sub.

Ok thanks for the input. Can you recommend a good 6.5 for my front?? I can stick those infinitys in back.

6x9's modern frankesteins huh? Why do car companies put them in stock then?

The same reason BMW installs Harma Kardon, Nisan Bose, etc...

They all find a cost-effective way of making something sound relativley decent that could be pwn3d by any decent aftermarket equipment.

I don't know what your price range is, but Rainbow makes some amazing comps...but I'm a bit biased.

Now that my dear boy depends on the amount of money you are looking to spend. There are a lot of good brands we could all recommend but need to know your price range before making that decision.

Sorry my good man, forgot to put my price range. I'd say no more than 60 bones, preferably less.

that's kind of low to get a decent set. my vote goes to Boston Acoustics. their entry line cost about $100.

Cool man....think I'll spend the extra for some good sound up front. Come to think of it I had an old Talon that came with some boston acoustics in it..those were quite nice. Thanks for the advice.

Drop a rock in a pond and watch the ripples. They aren't oval-shaped. Plus, the "edges" of an oval speaker can move independently of the center, causing problems.

Many companies have abandoned use of oval speakers for midrange/midbass use in the home. Oval in-car has advantages, mainly in terms of space conservation. I'm highly surprised a company like Boston would introduce what is basically a 6x9 subwoofer, BTW. Haven't heard it, but physics don't agree with the marketing...

Area of 6"x9" speaker = 42in^2
Area of 6.5" speaker = 33in^2

33 < 42

...so do you care to explain how and oval speaker would be better suited over a round one for space conservation?

only thing I hate more than a 6x9 is those fawking 4x10's, who the fawk is stupid enough to build a 4x10.

You might also try Polk speakers, I have a set of the dB6750 components up front and they sound very good. I like their natural sound. If you can afford them, even the entry level Boston's are incredible speakers - you can't go wrong with Boston.
