Bass dilema

I've got a Concept CC504 amp running Infinity Kappas and a 12 in. Alpine Type E sub. The sub sounds great with the trunk pass through open, but the bass diminishes quite a bit with it closed. I don't really like having to leave the pass through open all the time, so what can I do to get it to sound better? Thanks

What kind of box is this in? You could make a new one with a transmission line or go ported (if not done so already)

It's in a 1.25 cubic inch sealed box. I listen to mainly rock music so I want to keep it tight for double bass drum hits.

I would recommend a different sub, then. Alumapro subs will hit much better for metal. Don can hook you up.

The sub should be fine. I'm not familiar with taht amp, so idk if the sub has enough power going to it.
But i do have a ?

What direction is the sub facing?

one type-e is not enough for any kind of spl in a sealed box IMO. so the sub is not fine. the box should be ported for the spl you want...along with another sub that can handle more than 200 watts rms.

yeah, plus you would want a more accurate sub so the tightness is still there even in a ported application. my brahma was very punchy even when ported

haha well my 15 isn't ported, so i can't openly say they perform as accurately in a ported enclosure. (though i'm sure it will still sound awesome)

Good question. The sub should be firing towards the back of the car, not the cabin. Additionally ... you could get a dedicated amplifier and turn that gain up.

gain should be set properly using a dmm, dont use it as a volume control

If you want to set it properly, you should have it EQ'd to the tune of 30+ bands and have it set with a o-scope ...

That said, setting a sub amp gain certainly does not require a dmm, just a discerning ear that backs off about 1/4 turn from the point of any audible distortion, clipping or smoke.
