You can keep your stock key fob but you'll have to have another one too for remote start activation.

Well why do you want to keep the original Key Fob?? with the 791xv or 3.5 matrix you get 2-way paging (this has saved me twice) which is more than enough. long story short i live in an apt area, my alarm went on i ran out to check on it and some guys were standing around. And because i came down they left. Anywhoooo have you tried to go to local shops?? if money isnt an object than the viper or clifford is your choice. There are other "non-name" brands (less known more so) that add the remote start to your OEM Key fob if i remember correctly. try searching it....i remember there was a thread about it. But i really wouldnt use those because who knows when you could accidentally start your car, not to mention if you do start it you dont really know if it started, and finally the range of the OEM key fob is like half a block...(not far) compared to .5 mi (clear range to the car)....just my .02 i could be biased i guess...lol

i've done a couple cars that allowed me to use the factory key fob to remote start the vehicle.

The thing with adding the function to factory key fob's is that factory key fobs lose range over time...so in 5 years, you can only remote start from 15 feet away...might as well just go out and start it with the key. That's why it's best to just let the aftermarket replace the oem fob completely.

ok, lol....i get what your saying, i was looking at some ENTIRE viper alarm systems. i only wanted the remote start because of the cold weather, but hey like you said, you never know if its really started unless i actually go look at it. ill probably go with the one u suggested

So the after market viper alarm system, the Viper 791XV here:

http://www.cbrstereo.com/index.asp?P...odID=1027&HS=1

this system wont interfere with that TRANSPONDER CHIP inside the ignition and key?

It works in conjunction with it. You have to sacrifice a key and get a 556u transponder bypass module.

ok, i see....so i need this to bypass the transponder chip when "REMOTE STARTING" the ignition?

556u transponder bypass module:

Now what exactly do you mean by "sacrafice a key" that sounds a bit puzzling

Meaning, that 556u module holds/locks a key inside it. So you're going to have to give up a key so that it can be inside the module (which is mounted with the alarm under the dash). This is the way in which the transponder bypass works.

Yes all the ones with Transponders. Nissan/Infiniti is a bit off from normal GM/Ford/Honda/etc.. where a coded modual *could* work.

Although I do now have some that will eliminate the loss of a key, but how proven they are is still yet to be seen.

we use bypasskit.com's stuff. never had a problem.., they always work the way they say the do, and well. Bypass model pkn2 works with an 01 maxi without the loss of a key...

theres very seldom cars out there that we have to steal a key, as we keep them all in stock. just a suggestion, Truida.

thanks for the assist man..the reason im so iffy about my key is because I ONLY HAVE ONE...lol. No valet key for me, and then i have the one with no transponder chip and it unlocks the trunk, glove box, doors, and i can get the car in accessory mode with it but it wont start the ignition

why would you want that??? even low-mid budget aftermarket remote starts have range of 800-1000 ft, which ***** on stock key fobs.

Damn, that bypasskit.com stuff is nice! I have a 556u in the dash now. Would be nice to get the key out though. Anyone know how much the Platform#02 runs? And will it work with a Viper 771xv? Thanks!

for basic remote start, door locks, you'd really only need a pkn2 for an 02 maxima, the xk series is gonna run you twice as much..

the pkn2 is around 50, the xk's are between 70-90 iirc....

OK, well I got door locks, trunk, and window roll down thing, but I don't think the window roll down thing needs to be unlocked first. and the security system has to be disarmed before trunk is opened, but basic door unlock does that..
