BASS help :(

In my 94 maxima, I have 4x6s up front and 6.5s in the rear

I wouldn't prefer to go with an amp+sub setup because of trunk space issues and budget concerns, even though admittedly the weight dist. change would give more entertaining handling dynamics.

I do not listen to songs where bass is emphasized, but sometimes I have to turn the bass gain into the negative to avoid crackling from the rear speakers. This would lead me to believe the stock amplifier biases the bass to the rears.

So would mounting two 6.5 subwoofers on the rear deck, replacing the 6.5 speakers do me any good?

are you still using original gear or aftermarket stuff? when i still had my 3rd gen, i had some baffles to fit 6.5 coaxials in the front doors to replace the 4x6. it sounded much better and didn't distort as easily.

6.5 infinity reference in the rears

4x6 pioneers in the front.

I have no issues with the front though

Are your speakers amplified?

Also, stock amplifier? In a 94?

So, Bose amp, aftermarket speakers, sounds like garbage. Wonder why...

nope, no bose if the front are 4x6's. bose came with 4" rounds.

Well then it's no wonder why the speakers are distorting without an amp.

yep, something isn't adding up. his aftermarket HU should be able to get those speakers fairly loud.

So replacing the stock amp would solve all problems?

Wait the stock amp is actually getting in the way of my aftermarket HU?

My HU is a Jensen VM9313

First you have to determine if there IS a stock amp.

So no stock bose, no stock amp?

It's a 94 GXE with "Active Sound"

i'm almost certain you don't have the bose...and yeah it does say' active speaker' on the factory grills.

IIRC there IS a stock amp under the rear deck. but you can just bypass it. me thinks that amp is blown.

Well it's a little hockey puck stuck on the underside of the rear deck that says amplifier lol

Oh alright, then I can actually get bass out of the rear speaker without crackling?

yeah i think so. just run the speaker leads directly from your head unit's harness to the speakers. you'll have to snake some wires through your car to make it work, but it'll be worth it.

I upped the bass setting and the wattage supply on the head unit, and miraculous melodious bass poured out of my rear speakers... Sounded like I had 2 10" subwoofers in my trunk

Now since I totalled the maxima's front suspension, the Head unit crapped out so I will have to replace it .

But it's nice to know now I won't need a pricey amp and subwoofer setup!

Well, this is an old thread.

How exactly did you "up the wattage supply" on the head unit?

Where are you located? I do audio and suspension installs for org members.

I upped the built in amplifier in my headunit. I wasn't correct saying I upped the wattage
