Punch 600a.4

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with that model..Im tryin to power two subs with it even tho it's a four channel.....any special ways to make it happen even if it could happen. Also im goin with one 12soon...Maybe the new DVC KICKER...and i was told since it was dual voice coil that I could use the Punch600a4 as well.

Any advice would be apperciated...and for the record it's gonna be pushing 2 10" pioneer premiers

To get maximum power from the amp, you need to use either one 4-ohm sub or two 8-ohm subs (if you are using only two channels for subbage). Anything else will be half power or will drive the amp at an unstable load.

Ok so in idiot terms what does that mean...(sorry not super audio fluent) yes or no to the DVC Kicker...or yes or no to the pioneer premiers have in there now? Im just curious

Are you gonna use all 4 channels for the subs, or only the second channel pair (and use the first channel pair for the front stage)?

if i recall correctly...2 ohm stable at stereo...meaning using the amp as four channel....4 ohm stable bridged...meaning using the amp as two channel....if u get two 12's dvc...try to get one that is 2 ohms per coil...that way u have 4 two ohm coils and u can use all four channels...get the full potential power of the amp...correct if i'm wrong yo...

Correct....

Anyhow to answer his question, no he shouldn't get a pair of DVC Kickers to drive with that amplifier....

O.K fellas...I was only gonna get ONE 12" Kicker DVC to replace the two tens and run off the punch 600a.4 is that still a waste of time?.....and Im only using this amp to push the subs....I have a different amp to run to the interiors...

Thanks in advance....

in that case...get 4 ohms per coil....then bridge the amp into two channels...

Can I get 4ohms per coil in one 12" speaker? Cause I got the amp for a favor and want to use it to it's fullest potential if it's possible to push decently...but I also want to cut down from two 10's to just one 12"..any suggestions...

yes...make sure it is 4 ohms per coil tho...alot of writing on the manufacturers book can be confusing...

since the amp's full power is at 2 ohm stable and u only want to use 1 12's then u are only using 1/2 of it's potential...but neva fear...even at that u'll still sound good/good enough....

but I also want to cut down from two 10's to just one 12"..any suggestions...
it can be done...

It won't be half his potential with one sub. When he bridges the 4 channel amp down to 2 channels the amp will still be performing at maximum power. Just be sure to match the gains on each amp section exactly or one coil will get more power than the other.

Bridge the amp to 2 mono channels an then wire each bridged amp section to a separate coil on your DVC sub...unless you're planning on something else.

If you don't have a amp for your front speakers you could use the amp to drive a set of speakers and then bridge channels 3/4 for driving a SVC 4 Ohm sub.

A pair of 10's would have more cone area than a single 12" sub though 12's tend to have reproduce lower frequencies better than 10's. If you want more bass output cenntered around 80-120 Hz then I'd say go for the 2 10's. If you want lower bass response then go for the single 12. Then again this is a blanket statement and one thing to remember about car audio is there are no absolutes. There are some 10's that have lower bass response than some 12's. And if you get a single 12 that has a high linear travel (Xmax) it could actually deliver more bass than a pair of 10's that would have a lower Xmax.

That's what makes all the nerve racking, head scratching shopping all teh more fun...

um...guess my previous reply didn't come out rite...what i meant by half it's potential...i meant power compared to it's 2 ohm load...but by getting a single 12 with dvc and each coil is 4 ohm...with each coil wired to each bridged channel he would actually be using the full "stable" potential power of 4 ohm load...

I see you're referring to the amp being bridged into 2 Ohm loads? I wouldn't recommend that.

Then I'd highly recommend you look into the DEI CompX 12", Adire Audio Brahma, Image Dynamics IDMAX 12, Blueprint Driver 1203 and Audiomobile MASS.
