how often do you change your mobil 1?

Is there any process for changing over from refined oil to synthetic? since blends are available anyway I guess there is no problem swapping back and forth with each change. Couple more questions:
-After how many miles did you shift to synthetic?
-What brand and viscousity are you using?
-How often do you change your synthetic?

I went synthetic @ 35kvmiles. if your car is still new, break in the engine with refined oil (castrol GTX is highly recommended) then switch to synthetic after 10k.

5w30 mobil 1 supersyn...it depends on the environment of where you live.

every 4000 miles. I did an oil report @ 3000 miles drain period, the TBN was 12. blackstone recommended to extend the drain period.

1. Some recommend you do a synthetic blend first. Quick lube places can do a "flush" type of thing when you switch over.

2. 58,000

3. Mobil 1 5w/30

4. Usually 4k-5k. Last oil change was about 7500. Oops.

Good Question! I would also like some replys on oil consumption, how much over how many miles do you guys experience? I seem to use alittle more than a quart every 3000 or so. I also use Mobil 1.

Switched over to Mobil 1 @ 22,000 miles.

I use Mobil 1 5W30 & Mobil 1 M1-108 or M1-110 filter.

Change oil & filter every 4000 miles.

Bought my Max used, so switched over at about 35K. Use Mobil 1 and change it every 5K.

Shift to synthetic after 10,000 miles.

Try the 10W-30 if you're not already using it, it's more stable and consumption should be reduced slightly.

There are tons of opinions on when to changeover..consensus is no sooner than 10K miles or so. I switched over to Amsoil at less than 5k miles and now have 56K total on Amsoil and lately Mobil 1 5 or 10W 30. I have used STP 6941 oversized filter and 5000 mile oil changes since the first switch to synthetic. No problems, no noises, no oil usage, 23mpg average per tank (70/30 city/highway mix).

I just changed my oil with Mobil 1 5W-30 and to my surprise only 2.25 old qil was drained. I consumed about 2 quarts of oil! I have a 99 SE with 44,000 miles. should I be concerned or should I not be using synthetic yet?

Yes. Maybe. How far did you drive on that oil change cycle? Did you notice any leaks (around pan or oil filter or valve cover gasket) before the change? Have you seen blue smoke?

Hmmm. Maybe you burned a quart and the filter kept the rest. Just make sure that you check the dipstick at least twice a week to keep track of oil burning if there is any.

I am switching to Mobil1 SuperSyn at the next oil change. My objective is to have longer oil change interval and I specifically chose Mobil1 for the 10k mile interval. How long have you been using Mobil1 and how often do you change your oil filter and what brand did you use? Have you noticed any drawbacks from going this long between changing the oil? What did the oil look like after 10k? Any feedbacks are greatly appreciated.

I've got two maximas, so...

2000:
59k switched over (73k on it now)
5w-30 mobil 1 super syn
every 5000-6000 miles with the OEM filter

97
77k switched over (85k on it now) (both cars I bought used)
5w-30 mobil 1 syper syn
every 7500 miles with OEM filter, no replacing of filter mid-interval

In fact, I am going to be doing the 7500 interval on both cars going forward, and not replacing the filter mid-interval. This is the "schedule 2", according to the manual of both cars. My driving fits schedule 2 characteristics, and since S2 is speced out for an OEM filter with conventional oil (The manual makes no allowance for synthetics), my using the OEM filter with a synthetic should be more than adequate. I was thinking of doing the 10k drain with a filter change at 5k, but the overall price is simlar, and I just can't be bothered to **** around that much.

I go through a quart every 3-5k miles on my 00 max, and less than that on the 97. When I changed the 97's oil recently at 7300 miles it was still fairly nicely colored on the dipstick. The 00 seems to darken its oil a bit quicker.

I have service records for the 97 and its oil was changed every 3k since its inception with conventional oil. I bought the 00 max at 37k and did the 3k change with a syn blend (wasn't going to run mobil 1 through it at that price, and I needed frequent changes for warranty reasons). I've no idea of the 00's history.

I use M-1 5W-30 and change every 5000 miles. Blackstone said I could go 6000 miles so I did this past oil change. Will post the report soon.

Changing every 3000 or 4000 miles with synthetic is a waste.
