Synthetic!??

Synthetic!??
2008 maxima. 52K miles excellent maintenance records. Car never went 3500 miles without an oil change. Should I change to a synthetic??? If so, what's the best oil and what viscosity would you recommend.

I thought the purpose of the synthetics was to clean and lubricate your engine more efficiently. If that's the case, then wouldn't it suggest that you would experience longer engine life, all other variables being equal.

Switched to synthetic at first 1000 miles. Currently passed 165K mark and my car runs great. I change oil every 5K. No burning or leaking oil so far. Never needed to add oil, it stays at the same level until next oil change.
ShocknAwe would you please substantiate your opinion about conventional oil? And what made you to switch back from synthetic?

Yeah change out filter every so and then. Just be sure to replace that oil that you lost by replacing filter.

I use mobil 1 or castrol syntec (now edge...).
I buy a few 5L bottles when it's got a rebate.
always have one spare so you don't need to buy it full price.
Does it really make a difference? honestly I have no clue, and I have never spoken with anyone that has a clue, so go figure...

You'll get a thousand different opinions on this site, but personally I would never go back to using petroleum oil and I am not aware of any of my customers who would either.
Just converted a Hyundai Tiburon to AMSOIL last week...car's an '08 with less than 50K on it...petroleum oil had been changed every 3K and from what I could see there was a significant amount of varnish that has already formed and the oil was noticeably thick and dirty...signs that the oil was breaking down. Nissan's are not particularly prone to sludge, but still.
See my ad in the Group Deals section for additional information...let me know if I can help.

AT 1.000 miles I changed to Mobil 1 and love it. TriedCastrol Edge and Pennzoil Ultra, the engine rand smoother and had about 1.5mpgmore with Mobil 1. Now the bad part, Mobil 1 worked so well the mechanic atNissan did not or did not want to notice my timing chain rattling and whining.Nissan is fixing it now after 3 months of fighting with them.

287k here on conventional oil at 3k intervals. The only reasons to run synthetic are extended oil changes, small oil pans, short tripping, or hot overworked engines.
How often do you want to change your oil, and what is your driving style.

I drive pretty sane. Hardly ever speed. Just cruise. I usually put 300-400 miles a week on it. Most of it highway miles.

These are ideal conditions for oil and engine internals. You could keep running conventional and change it at 7K if you wanted, or run synthetic for 10K+.
I drive approximately 230 miles/week and could easily stretch my oil out to 7K, but I prefer buying cheep 5w30 dino and changing at 3K.
