Ouch . . . stop cursing!
I know the SUVs have to be feeling this the most, it usually costs them about $40 on average to fill a tank, they must be paying ridiculous prices or riding bikes.

paid $37 bux today and didnt even get 15 gallons. cheapest i could find today was $2.55 for 91 octane (highest in cali). most other places are at 2.59 - 2.75

i filled up at a one of the cheapest Shell gas stations in San Jose, CA. I put in 20 bux of 91 octane (highest we have), cost $2.61 a gallon and with 20 bux, it gave me 7.6 gallons which was good for 1/2 a tank. Later on that night, after driving 200 miles on 7.6 gallons (driving and drag racing at a track) i filled up again at another Shell which was $2.67 for 91 octane. Its getting really expensive.
the most expensive i have seen it was at a San Francisco Chevron which was $2.89 for premium.

The real kicker is 3 days ago I had to fill up the company SUV..
The Conoco I stopped @ had 2.03 / gallon on the sign. When I pulled the company card out I looked at the pump and it said 1.93 / gallon
![headbang](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/headbang.gif)
That was awesome!
I figured I should go get my car and bring it back to fill it up, but I was still on the clock and it was 2:00 pm. I figured I could make it back just after 5 and fill up.
Well, on the way home.. I stopped at the same station...
I'll be darned if it hadn't already gone up to 2.03 / gallon
![got me](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif)
First time I personally paid over 2.00 / gallon in my life.
Had to happen sometime...

Gas is just getting rediculous, and like it's been said earlier, it's just going to get worse
I'm scared to go fill up my tank...I just got paid, and after bills, the remainder is going for gas!
Guess it's time to go find a bicycle or something...
Prices per car in my family:
Mom's Caddy Deville: uses premium, it's been as high as $2.27. I make her go to the HEB gas lot and get it for $2.18. Takes about $40 to fill her up.
Dad's GMC Sonoma: Excellent milages, uses 87. Fill up about $25-30 at $1.98 to 2.03, and he's good for about 450 miles! *enter insane jealousy*
My 87 Maxima: Uses 87, which is as above.. but will last me a measly 7 days. WITH the least amount of driving *work, store, gym, home, all within a 10 mile radius of each other*
I miss the days of 1.30 a gallon... it took 13 bucks one time to fill up our Taurus...

just to let you guys know, these gas stations aren't making money on gasoline, they never really do. right now most station are selling at cost, that's right, if the sign says "Premium $2.38", then they paid anywhere from $2.36 - $2.38 per gallon.
in regular times(when gas was cheap) they make 1 - 3 pennies on "regular, 1-4 pennies on "mid-grade", and 1-5 pennies on "super or premium".
selling gasoline sreves the same function as selling lottery, it's there to bring customers in. if the buy gas or a lotto ticket then they might decide to buy one of the stores high priced soda's or a bag of chips, etc,etc,etc.............

I took a look this am with the finances. I never took $105/barrel oil very seriously, but I read some compelling analyses that support the notion. Our strong demand simply does not put any pressure on prices to fall. I'm beginning to wonder if $3 for 87 octane will even change us Americans.
It really is a darn shame--you figure out the answer, you'll win a Nobel Prize. Our investments are negative for the month/quarter/YTD, jobless situation was mixed, rates seem to be facing a real upward pressure, and inflation keeps rearing its head. But it's the weekend so let's enjoy! Me and my buddy got one of those microwave cooker with built-in fans installed over his stove, what seemed to be an easy job turned into 3 hours. But I still get a reward in DIY. You get to get out the Milwaukee hammer drill, tapcon screws, ceramic bits, break things and kick up a lot of sawdust and plaster. Beats work anyday!

I don't mind expensive costs-of-living if we get what we pay for. I have friends in San Diego and then friends-of-friends in Anaheim and San Fran. For what they pay, I'm not sure what they're getting. But the costs to live there are shocking.
NYC is another story, I believe it's the capital of the world. $910/sq. ft. makes sense there, if you can afford it.
Gas in Philly seems to have remained the same for at least 1 1/2 wks. $2.399 for super, but for whatever reason the Sunoco I go to is $2.199 for 93 octane.

Cars for Americans are an extension of their lives and personalities, its their freedom. Its not until gas prices hit well over $3 where SUV's are going to be reserved for people who can afford filling them up.

I think we as Americans can afford anything, because of our feelings about going into debt. Food for thought, all that money that people don't pay every month because they lease their vehicle (i.e. increase their cash flow), do they take that cash flow and do something that generates income? Or did they need a lease because they don't have the cash needed to buy?
