<---*looking forward to purchasing the first H powered Maxima*

Sure, what you say does play a part in the futures price of a barrel of crude. But it has no bearing on the artificial price of a gallon of gasoline, which is a refined product. The difference between fresh ham, and SPAM. Gasoline is the latter.

Example, when 1.099, mid was 1.199, super 1.299. Super was 18.2% more than regular.

Now, with regular being 2.159, if super were 18.2% more, it'd be 39 cents more per gallon or 2.549. Yet it is only 14 cents more at 2.299, or 6.5% more. Why? Because there is a certain, though not much, elasticity of demand. Why don't retailers start showing some stones and sell super for 18.2% more than regular, like they did before?

Hey, I don't like George W. I don't like big oil. But I'm not stupid. I got many shares of RIG from the Schlumberger spin-off years ago, and I am laughing at what my shares have done. I'm a realist. Remember those idiots who were so politically correct they invested in "green" mutual funds? Lost their shirts, but at least they were green. But it kinda defeats the purpose of investing....

Gas prices have nothing to do with government.

the gas prices at RaceTrac were $1.95/2.05 and 215
that's cheap. most of the gas stations around my house start at $2.90. also, to get to one of my friend's house i have to go through three tolls; two are $0.80 and one is $1.50

Thats why Federal, State and City taxes should be lowered to help out with this problem. When you leave in NYC you get nickel and dimed by everyone. Now th Post Office wants to raise the cost of a first class stamp by 2 cents. The sales tax went up. The tolls went up. The streets are fu*ked up. The Transit system is fu*ked up. Thery also raised the cost for a car inspection. It never stops. Sorry just had to vent. Later Warren

The prices are now $2.23, 2.33 and $2.43 at RaceTrac. Gas is always higher in Chicago than in Florida.

Article I read in San Francisco Chronicle.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...UGA4C50P61.DTL

Peak oil means prices will inexorably push higher and higher in the face of surging demand. This in turn will have a catastrophic impact on oil- addicted economies around the planet and, according to some prognosticators, could lead to wars over remaining supplies.

Amos Nur, a professor of geophysics at Stanford University, told me that if we're not at peak oil right now, "we're in the neighborhood."

ChevronTexaco and the other oil majors know this as well, he said, and this is why they're scrambling to secure as much global reserves as they can.

"There's no question in my mind that they are aware of this and that they are right," Nur said. "Oil prices are not coming back down."
Also some good information.

My Chevron station is closed for now. They are waiting on a new owner to open it back up. I'll have to buy BP in the interim.

It's 2.49 up here in Troy for Sunoco 93. I definitely feel sorry for those on the West Coast, a projected $4.00 by summer is insane. I think I'm gonna bring out my old 12spd Huffy Jackhammer

Repairs, car washes, and all the things they sell inside are where they make the money. Thats why you see all these stations adding on huge convience stores or some fast food restaurant. Thats also why you see BP's or Shell's buying out smaller chains or mom and pops because they can buy them out for a ton of money knowing that they will make it back no problem with their stores.

Yep, Wal Mart theory--if you can't beat 'em, beat 'em. But make no mistake, the corporate cost is not the same as the mom and pop's cost. I know what you are saying, thought I'd get a gallon of milk after filling up and the shyster was sellling it for nearly $4. I'm not paying that I'd rather support corporate America and pay $2.90, than get ripped-off.

I'm not hurting yet. I drive my truck most of the time and it runs fine on 87. I plan on driving the Max to New Orleans over the weekend though. I still think it will be worth it to drive the Max on a 400 mile round trip. I still see Ford Excursions on the road.

Jersey is the armpit of America... hence all the oil refineries and cheaper gas.

For some reason, it's only South Jersey that has it cheaper. Go further north, the prices go up. We do have a couple major refineries in the area. And yes, we are the armpit of America. But at least we're not the **** like Florida is. Wait a sec, not sure if I'd rather be the pit or the ****.....I guess whatever is cheaper...

That's what I used to think, until I saw the education testing results and the per-capita income stats and the population density as well. I'll take a beach house in Sea Isle City over Sheepshead Bay any day of the week, six ways to sundown....

No fawkin kidding! I'd love to as well lol. Suprisingly enough, its also the most densely populated state. You would think you'd be crunched up against people... and yet still I'd love to be there anyday over Brooklyn. But working for the city and living in Jersey is a big

Some companies will sell at a loss as you well know....literally. If the retailer is owned by a larger company like exxon (atleast partly invested).....they won't care if they sell at a "loss"...since they are moving oil for exxon, etc. Some companies that just move oil/gas will sell at a loss to compete (but make it up with beer ) . Penny business for retailers.

Anyway, $2.39 for premium in El Paso, TX...Chevron.
