Sure, what you say does play a part in the futures price of a barrel of crude. But it has no bearing on the artificial price of a gallon of gasoline, which is a refined product. The difference between fresh ham, and SPAM. Gasoline is the latter.
Example, when 1.099, mid was 1.199, super 1.299. Super was 18.2% more than regular.
Now, with regular being 2.159, if super were 18.2% more, it'd be 39 cents more per gallon or 2.549. Yet it is only 14 cents more at 2.299, or 6.5% more. Why? Because there is a certain, though not much, elasticity of demand. Why don't retailers start showing some stones and sell super for 18.2% more than regular, like they did before?
Hey, I don't like George W. I don't like big oil. But I'm not stupid. I got many shares of RIG from the Schlumberger spin-off years ago, and I am laughing at what my shares have done. I'm a realist. Remember those idiots who were so politically correct they invested in "green" mutual funds? Lost their shirts, but at least they were green. But it kinda defeats the purpose of investing....

Thats why Federal, State and City taxes should be lowered to help out with this problem. When you leave in NYC you get nickel and dimed by everyone. Now th Post Office wants to raise the cost of a first class stamp by 2 cents. The sales tax went up. The tolls went up. The streets are fu*ked up. The Transit system is fu*ked up. Thery also raised the cost for a car inspection. It never stops. Sorry just had to vent. Later Warren

Also some good information.

Peak oil means prices will inexorably push higher and higher in the face of surging demand. This in turn will have a catastrophic impact on oil- addicted economies around the planet and, according to some prognosticators, could lead to wars over remaining supplies.
Amos Nur, a professor of geophysics at Stanford University, told me that if we're not at peak oil right now, "we're in the neighborhood."
ChevronTexaco and the other oil majors know this as well, he said, and this is why they're scrambling to secure as much global reserves as they can.
"There's no question in my mind that they are aware of this and that they are right," Nur said. "Oil prices are not coming back down."

Thats also why you see BP's or Shell's buying out smaller chains or mom and pops because they can buy them out for a ton of money knowing that they will make it back no problem with their stores.

For some reason, it's only South Jersey that has it cheaper. Go further north, the prices go up. We do have a couple major refineries in the area. And yes, we are the armpit of America. But at least we're not the **** like Florida is. Wait a sec, not sure if I'd rather be the pit or the ****.....I guess whatever is cheaper...
