I'm was reading Edmund.com's Family Sedan comparo, and they said the new 222HP Maxima was slower to 60 than the previous Maxima. Can anybody validate this?

Yup, it's true. The '95's are actually the fastest so far.

Is there a particular reason why the '95 is the fastest? I find it kinda wierd that the older car would be faster.

I've got a '00 GLE and a'95 SE, both automatic, and the 95 definitely feels like the faster car. So much so that I don't much care to drive the '00 anymore (I got the '95 just recently - wish I'd looked harder for a 5-speed, though). Quicker throttle response and better shifting. The '00 really starts to move out at speeds over 80, though.

5th gen Maximas are a couple hundred pounds heavier, and they feel like it.

Steve

'00 GLE - white!
'95 SE - black!

Here's the numbers for the '95 and '00 Maxima SE, respectively. The '95 hit 60 in 6.6 secs, and the '00 in 6.7. It was really close. They're both from MT as well, for consistency purposes.

you know why

motor trends times are both with SE models and the fact that the 5th generation is slower to 60 is because they tested it with the 17 inch rims and that attributes to more weight and with bigger wheels they have to turn more to equal the rpms of the 16's they tested on the 4th generations. i have 17's and the acceleration to 60 feels slower than my 99 with 15's, so i swapped and my 0-60 increased about .4 seconds. but i will keep the bigger tires for better handling, cornering, and looks.
