As for the new Altima. The interior looks good, but they said that the fabric doesn't line up or the stitching is sub-par.

Who cares?? As long as it doesn't tear to break, its fine. When your inside a car, you look at the dash and stuff, it doesn't matter if the material doesn't seem to be in line as long as its pleasant to look at. Also they said the interior of the car is sub-par, not the actual car's quality. As long as the mechanical and electrical systems are topnotch, I could care less. If the car is reliable and performs well then thats all that matters. The Altima has so much going for it: style, performance/power, handling, looks, reliability. Out of that, the Camry only has the reliability. Just cause the interior doesn't have proper stitching it doesn't take away from the car's appeal. The new Camry has a boring interior, I'd rather have the Altima's interior than the Camrys. Their's looks so dull and sterile.
as i read this post...i think to myself...why even buy a maxima? if you're willing to accept all the minor imperfections then get a Kia or a Hyundai...or a cheaply made car. why spend 20K+ for the flag ship of nissan?
i think everyone's point is the defects and the minor imperfections should NOT be there. but they are there...you seem to be willing to accept that. i guess whatever floats your boat.

But the Altima is not the flagship of Nissan! It's the volume seller, ala Camry and Sentra/Corolla. It's not expected to have high quality interiors. When you buy a Corolla or Camry you don't expect an opulent interior. You just need something that does the job.

If you were talking about the Maxima, then yes, you cannot have any imperfections. But the sad truth is that all cars have imperfections. BMWs have rather high maintenance, Toyotas (Camrys/Corollas) have no soul or spirit, they are bland cars, etc..

The only imperfection of the Maxima is the paint. And if you mod the car, then the auto tranny is also not to good. But, for stock cars that aren't driven hard or pushed to the limit, the Maxima is Perfect for what it is, a mid-size family sedan with spice. I'm not gonna lie to myself and say the car is a performance sedan that can compete with GS or 540s, cause it can't. The build quality is astounding (I don't care what any of you say, there are no rattles or squeaks in the interior of the car, atleast not in mine).

I love the interior of the Maxima, it has a nice swooping center console, with leather steering wheel, heated leather seats. It has a great stock sound system and everything feels very put together.

I'm not commenting on the 2000 Maximas because I have never driven one, only commenting on mine.

Toyota Camry is a dog....looks like a freshened Ford Taurus....the first time I saw it, I thought it was the '02 Taurus.....

Camry will sell because of build quality. 25-30k Altimas won't because of build quality......

I like the Altima better from a looks/features standpoint, but every major mag that's reviewed it and the members here that have test driven it loathe the build quality....and that's people who have put up with Minimas' sloppy build quality and are used to it......I would be concerned if I were a Nissan employee.... [/B]

Woa, THATs the car it reminded me of! I am looking at the new camry right now in my neighbors driveway, it looks like a Taurus!

And BTW, I think the Camry will sell based on popularity and reputation more than built quality.. well, the reputation comes from years of great reliability on past camrys
Anyways, Altima is nice.. I know they cut costs, but I've heard most car manufacturers have done this.. Even Hondas and Toyotas.

DIE TOYOTA DIE. I used to love Toyota, but they made every car so damn conservative that they're obviously straight out saying, "Hi I'm Toyota! I've been designed to attract people only 80 years and older. The worse their eye-sight, the better they think I look."

well, kinda is like Cadillac right? and to fight this identity crisis, they come up with models like the new CTS which are amazing cars, but just look like they were folded out of paper.... I'll root for Toyota to do... cuz then Nissan will prevail even though I think the new Altima looks obese

btw I own a Maxima and not a Minima hmmmm... maybe not... =( MCoA #4657 thx to Super scratchy/chippy black

I'm disappointed.

That's a good point, I didn't even notice the similarity.

The wayt they look

I have to somewhat agree with the fact that the new toyota's look like fords, but they also resemble the avalon. A lot! I saw a toyota test drive in the parking lot of the horse track over here and they had lots of cars. Audi's, toyota's, nissan's. You guys should have seen how fast that Audi was! The maxima was broke, the altima rocked. The camrey's and avalon's suked in terms of performance, body roll was nasty. Unfortunatly the build quality inside the altima sucked, comparable to that of old hundays. Even though it was a beater, in was under a month old and the interior was falling apart. It was a sad representation on nissan since the maxima was broke. (or was it that they did not want the rest to be blown away by maxima?)
