TO ALL PEOPLE WITH LED TAILS (any gen or car)

Make sure you keep your tail lights VERY clean. Wax them and RainX them.

Leds do not get hot enough to melt snow like the older incandescent bulbs. So be cautious driving this winter.

The waxing/rainX will keep the snow from sticking on the tails and the snow should just slide off.

Thankyou Kevlo! I will keep that in mind.

Sorry for being off topic but I was reading the UK forum and boy do they have quite a bit of hate towards fog lights. I mean according to what they are saying, every single one of us who wired their fog lights to come on independently or retro-fitted HIDs in them should be ticketed.

They were bashing on trucks too, I don't know about anyone else but I found that offensive.

I think the rainx idea is no good, The lens on the LED tails from EzKoncepts look like some sort of plastic and IIRC plastic and rain-x dont mix.

bashing on trucks i can agree on but with fog lights i dont get why people hate yellow ones, theyre not that bad. people here with JDM WRX still use big yellow fogs, i dont think theyre illegal but cops dont like them too much. retro HID's i'm fine with too, but what kills me is dbags in their lifted F350 with fking bright headlights that have to stop 4 inches from your back bumper and the headlights nail you right in the face in your car.

with rain-x, the carwash i use (electronic drive-in) uses rain-x after the clearcoat protectant, and it sprays allover so it would hit my plastic tailights and such

Haha yeah it was a UK police forum too LOL. Yeah I guess people in the UK are really picky about when to use a fog light. Like there was this one post about how people who always have their fogs on are dumb because it is supposed to be used only during the fog, rain, and dusty conditions. And that it doesn't actually improve their range of light it only makes what your headlights already illuminate, brighter.

They might be UK cops, but I still don't see why that is a bad thing if you can see what is right in front of you better then you won't accidentally stop pass a stop light line or something. I mean I have standard 9004s and we all know how much they suck like one time during a night time drive I accidentally ran a red light because I couldn't tell where the line to stop was and ran a stop light at like 2 MPH but it was my fault for sleepy But also fog lights don't really glare unless you put like a 100W bulb in them and aim them up or something. I guess the cops from the UK are just generally strict?

Here is WI the law states that you can drive with fogs and driving lights (corners and tails) in rain, snow, or heavy fog without headlights. I do it in every heavy snow and can see much better. Even driven by police and no hassle.

when i was there i saw no tuners really, i think because the city sections especially have pedestrians allover and heavy traffic and they just dont want fast aftermarket cars whizzing by.

thats why i love being where i am, cops let alot slide

I guess that would be a good point. They don't want anything like the drift scene in Tokyo Drift to happen. Where the really nice S15 drifted through a intersection full of people, which looked really cool by the way

Japans died a bit too sadly, 80's and 90's were the peak but after the Mid Night Club disbanded after hitting those bikers (Mid Night Club>all) and with cops clamping down ive heard from people there that highway stuff has been cut down by around 50%, mountain drifting is still good i think

Still might move to Tokyo though, running the 3rd gen on the Wangan FTW

The issue is the driving with your fogs on diminishes your long-distance sight by creating such a bright spot in front of the car that you can't see toward the end of your headlights' range. Thus your driving abilities and safety are diminished because you cant' see that well.
Just for grins.... go drive down a back road at 60mph. as soon as you see something on the side of the road in your headlights (a mailbox or whatever), nail your brakes and try to stop before you pass it.

Now do the same thing again after turning your fogs off and driving around without them for 20 minutes or so.
You'll find you are able to see farther at night because your eyes adjust for the difference.

Also, it is in fact illegal in many states to drive with your foglights on unless there's heavy rain or fog. There's a reason they're called fog lights. If they weren't meant for fog, they'd be called driving lights.

fog lights weren't a ricer invention either- this has absolutely nothing to do with rice or imports or cops anywhere hating imports. it has everything to do with being a safe driver and being able to see and be seen when the time is right.

Haha, good point! Its just as you can see from my signature I don't have any fog lights and so I don't know how my vision would be affected by having them

I actually would really like to try scenario, of driving at 60 and then stopping as soon as I see a mailbox to see how far I stop but I don't believe there is anywhere to do that legally.

As for one more issue, I find it really hard to see when I am at an intersection sometimes. Usually there are cars on all sides and sometimes I find it really hard to see any lines on the road especially when its raining or when the ground is wet. Does everyone go through the same problem? I assumed it was because I wear glasses that the glare is really bad for me but I am just wondering.

Oh and sorry for jacking the thread, Rain-X on taillights and all windows is a lifesaver

I've had glasses since I was about 7 myself and have probelms with night vision as well. usually it's the glare off other headlights causing stars and stripes and stuff. when I'm alone, seeing at night is usually fine- unless it's raining and the streets are wet. That's a problem for just about anybody though- glasses or not.

In TX, they use raised reflector dots on many/most roads, and I've seen some now that have tiny solar panels on them and are filled with white/yellow LEDs on the 'front' side, and red ones on the back, as well as red ones on curves and school crossings and whatnot. they're VERY cool at night, especially in the rain.

What's sad is that I saw them in Trinidad about 2-3 years ago. I'm just now seeing them in Houston. You'd think you would see them in a MAJOR Us city well before you'd see them in a nearly 3rd world country.

As for the emergency stops in the backwoods, just go find yourself a deserted road off the main drag. obviously don't do it in a neighborhood or anything, but if you just hit the highway I'm sure you'll be outside of 'town' in a few minutes. then find a side road or back road and turn down it.. voila. no traffic= bueno.

Ah thanks its nice to hear you wear glasses too haha, I've just started wearing them about 2 years ago and normally with out glasses I can handle glare just fine but I guess everyone has the same troubles at night es specially when its raining.

And I agree with you on the raised dots, its strange because where I live there are parts where there are dots and reflective raised thick white lines where you are supposed to stop at red/green lights and some roads where there is just a small faded white line across the road or nothing at all which is really confusing. And on some roads there are two lanes separated by some painted white lines and when the ground is wet mixed in with tons of cars going the opposite direction, it is so hard to stay in your lane because everything on the ground looks pitch black with a blob of light in front of you. I guess we just need to get used to it

Germans do have a lot of rules, but they're generally much less arbitrary. It needs to be an obvious hazard or come up in accident investigations as a factor enough for them to actually care.

Fog lights without fog = ticket
Why? Vision issues as stated above. Also, it really increases haze to or blinds oncoming traffic when there is no fog.

Lifted vehicle = ticket
Can you imagine a lifted truck coming into a turn on the autobahn at 120 mph? They got tired of cleaning that stuff up.

Pass on the right = suspension of license, three strikes you're out
Again, passing on the right when don't absolutely have to has according to their studies caused a lot of accidents on highways. Like medications, what's good for them isn't necessarily good for us.

Failing to yield to faster traffic while in left lane = big, fat ticket
Since now you're forcing people to choose between passing on your right or getting rear-ended.

Note that many US states also have must-yield laws about passing lanes, it's just that they're rarely enforced.

On the other hand, in the rest of the world you learn to drink there before you learn to drive.

It seems that Germany have more sense than U.S. I can't lower my vehicle but I can raise the hell out of it.

Which is more of a hazard? Scraping your car in a flat or blinding the **** out of other drivers while reducing your ability to turn.

Either way, when I am blinded by either 2 story trucks or horrible drop-in HIDs I surprise them with some early daylight courtesy of my bi-xenon retros.

I can't count the amound of Chevrolet Tahoes/Suburban/Yukon/ trucks with drop-in HIDs that feel the need to tailgate me. "HAHAHAHA.....That limo tint and auto-darkening mirror isn't gonna help you bro. Your sides are exposed"

I understand the HiDs but stock fog lights on Maximas are pretty much just a decoration. At least on 5th gens for that matter. Mine dont and never did offer any real lighting advantage unless it was snowing really bad out, and even still they only illuminated 1-3 more of the ground directly in front of me.
Considering that it almost makes sense that people would put in HiD fogs as the stock ones are practically useless, thus I dont see why UK people would hate on them. HiDs arent even as bad on the eyes from behind as bright Halogen bulbs. Those are the worst hands down.
