NOS gages

Hi I just got a NOS kit. I want to make sure I do not blow up my engine by running to lean. What's a good A/F gage I can use? I asked a guy at my local performance shop, he said autometer's are OK but move very erratically and probably would not be accurate. Is there an alternative?

Also are there any other gages you would recommend? Fuel pressure? I will be searching the other postings, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Where do you tap for an afr (jumptronix) guage? @ the ecu? or @ the actual o2 sensor?

if the gauge doesn't come with an additional wideband O2 Sensor then it won't be as effective.. if it does.. then put that O2 Sensor in the y pipe and connect it to the gauge..

if the gauge comes by it self.. you can connect it to the O2 sensor.. but keep in mind that the readings will not be accurate

I am curious as to why connecting to an exisitng o2 sensor is not accurate? All it is measuring is the o2 voltage right?

Here is some general info for anyone interested.

Here is a good link for A/F Information

Here is another good link on the A/F EGT debate (not specifically written for the maxima - but you get the idea). If you search google or whatever you will find other good info. Click Me

not too sure.. but it appears that the car uses that one and it must be doing other stuff.. because when i tapped my O2 sensor off hte ECU it moved like and equalizer.. up and down.. but everyone recommends using an additional O2 sensor for more accurate readings

the reason why the stock O2 sensors are bad on a maxima is because they are not wideband. They only read rich, lean, or normal so you won't get a good reading. Get an EGT

Dont waste your time with A-M. It only give you a metered signature till about 4k rpms. If you want to see what your car is really doing, go and buy an 02 sensor and install into the Y pipe collector just before the flex. That way its not effected by the open/closed loops dilemas you'll face on one of the bank sensors.

I agree and have always preferred EGT to A/F but one needs to consider that just because the A/F Gauge comes with a separate o2 sensor - it does not mean it is a wideband gauge (the greddy unit is not a wideband for example). Wideband gauges are very expensive (700 and up) and are probably not too common for Maxima owners.

So I guess bottom line - it is up to you on which one you prefer. There are arguments for both of them.
