Ignition Timing Retard Has Arrived For The Late Model Maxima!!!

I just installed a J&S Electronics Ultra SafeGuard on my Maxima, I am in the process of putting it through its paces and will have more Maxima specific info shortly.

This unit is just what we have needed for sooooooo long for boosted and juiced Maximas. It will retard ignition timing based on the amount of boost pressure. It also has an auxillary input that can be used to pull a few degrees of timing when you hit the nitrous. The best part is that it monitors the knock sensor for knock and will pull timing if it detects any knock while in closed loop mode! It is also user selectable to pull timing on all cylinders or pull timing by the individual cylinder that is knocking!

I am so freakin psyched!!!

Congrats, you have been stickied.

Yes, one of the best new mods by far.

Question. My quick glance only sees applications for 4 & 8 coil drivers(ie.. 4 & 8 cylinder cars) What do you use for our V6? An 8 coil unit w/ 2 inputs not used?

Three channel mode firing factory coils in wasted spark configuration.

A few questions --

Cost? OK, browsing the J&S site I found prices of $545/595, do they go for any cheaper?
Are there any potential performance benifits from this for N/A Maximas?
Would this eliminate the need for colder plugs with nitrous?

If you were to build a higher compression NA motor it would be nice to have the closed loop knock protection, but for stock it is not necessary unless you want to run really cheep gas

It may eliminate the need for colder plugs in nitrous'd VQ's. It depends how much nitrous, this would be a question you would need to investigate your self by using the unit and trying a few combinations.

I paid $525 shipped.

I'm assuming this couldn't be used to advance timing as well, only to retard it?

Good job Matt. Can't wait for the write up.

Do I see 2.62" in the future? Maybe a little nitrous wouldn't hurt either.

Awesome....thanks for the email on the update on this.....I kinda ran outta money because I've been spending most of it on my other hobby, computers....hehehe. Anyways, I'm definitely interested in doing something like this because it would be the perfect addition to let me run the higher compression pistons and still run a lot of boost.....still haven't picked up my engine yet, because they said it wouldn't fit in my jimmy..hehehe

Well, sorry but can somebody explain real quick what this allows us to do? Run higher boost or what? Either way it sounds great obviously.

More boost and juice with out having to worry about to much ignition timing.

After looking at the pics of Chungers plugs last week, he could definitely use this unit.
