Thanks for the help n3985. Just ordered some new tires (OEm size) from tirerack.com and am hoping they will help. Is there somewhere you can direct me to learn more about the suspension issues? Both my front and rear ends seem to bottom out (loud noise) when I hit even a small pothole. Any ideas or references are appreciated. Thanks.

The previous owner of my car used packaging tape to hold my corner light on my passenger side in place. I was able to repair the bracket holding it, but I really need to get rid of that tape residue off my paint. Any opinions?

I have a 99 Infiniti I30t. Automatic transmission with about 140000 miles on it. Everything's stock. I am not looking to add 200hp to my engine but I want to maximize its acceleration power. My guess to what I would upgrade would be lightening the weight, replacing the exhaust and adding a cold air intake? Hah I'm no car buff so I need as much direction as I can get. What specific mods would be most effective and realistic for me?

if you dont want lots of power then I would just get simple bolt ons.....First I would get a Y pipe then finish off the exhaust with 2.5in b pipe and then go with the CAI....looking at about 20ish whp with all that....and then maybe a little weight redution if you want...

Hey guys - new here. Trying to figure out how to install an aftermarket headunit in my wife's 97 Infiniti i30 with BOSE. Bought the Schosche harness for the 94+ Nissan/Infiniti Bose systems.. but no dice. Speakers dont make any sound and I have double and triple checked the wiring.. any advice out there?

This is the adapter I bought: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZjvJ7Rk...NN03&s=0&cc=01

10/30 EDIT:

I figured it out! the Crutchfield wiring adapter was all messed up. I downloaded the Infiniti radio wiring diagrams, and had to splice the power antenna into the rear amp turn-on signal to get the bose amps to power up. Now it works like a charm and sounds just as good as the stock Bose system did! I was expecting some degredation in sound.. maybe my ears just couldnt tell. Thanks anyway guys. Any noob's reading this should be happy to know that the 97 Infiniti i30 Bose head-unit can be converted just like the Maxima, despite Crutchfield and others saying it cant.

What would be best to remove for weight reduction (other than spare tire and girlfriend )?

Mazz,

Do some easy no, cost stuff first. Clean out the throttle body by removing, cleaning it and replacing it. There are good write ups on it around here, just make sure you don't clean it while still attached to the car. Removal provides the best access.

My thinking is that many improvements in power will be bottlenecked by the TB not performing as it should.

That should be a Maf problem

Frankencar is no longer in business, so you'll have to find a used one or go with the Berk intake...

Dine,
Read the stickies up top, then give us information we can use like:

CEL light on?
Auto or manual?
Does this happen in gear or idle or both?
What service has been done that you know of?
Does throttle linkage operate manually from stop to stop like it should? (look inside the TB to see)

Please use some punctuation & capitol letters (the tall ones) so we can figure out when you stop one sentence and begin another.

Try focusing on one topic at a time.

Forget adding mods till you can get it running right.

We're here for you man...

Initial guess is coil packs are bad (one or more) but it's going to be expensive to figure it out. I would think that it would also show up as a CEL... anyone else?

I had coil problems twice and once the CEL didn't come on. The only one symptom was that the engine was shaking and running on 5 cylinders...

OK. Here are my own experinces.
I meant when some of the cylinders is misfiring due to a bad coil. At idle the shaking is not so noticeable until you start driving your car... or at least that was my case...
I would suggest changing all six coils at once. You should get a good price at here
Make sure to get the right ones, because there are two different part numbers for the 2K I30...

I notice that MAF is probably the most common problem here at the ORG with all A33 Maximas/I30/I35 and i think that sooner or later you'll have to replace it. Maybe you'll get an ECU update with the new MAF as well...

Please, keep in mind that i'm not a mechanic!
Good luck!

Engine swap

Okay, here's the deal. I swapped vq30de to my maxima,it was vq20de before, and at the same time automatic to manual. So,now when I try to start the car,it cranks well, fires up,goes to about 3000rpm and then dies after few seconds. Engine light is also blinking, but I think its because of the automatic ecu, there was a knock sensor code but now it is gone. Any ideas how to get the car running?

Hi, there, I just bought a use 2004 used I35, so here I have some newbie question to ask.
1. If I want to duplicate my car key having transponder chip, is Infiniti store the only place I can go and get extra key? Does locksmith work too? the reason I ask is because the dealer always charge you alot.
2. I am also looking to buy a key remote. I know ebay only sells for $25 or so, but I am not sure if it works good? Furthermore, What should I do if I lost the key remote of the car? is there anyway to solve it by myself rather than going to infiniti store to delete the remote ID from the car?

I have a question about the fog lights on an 01 i30. The right fog light is not working. The car was purchased like that. I'm assuming it's just the bulb. since it's just the right side thats out. I need to know how to remove the housing/bulb to replace it. just by looking at it, i'm assuming you need to remove the bumper to get to it but i didn't want to go through that if i didn't need to. I don't have the FSM but i have looked at the one on phatG20 and the one Here

EDIT: I got it done. I eventually found a spot in the FSM on phatG20 indicating that bumper removal is needed but I just pulled back some of the splash guards from underneath the car and it's pretty straight forward from there.

Its not the auto ECU... I'm still running mine without incident. Did you rewire the PN switch?

Yes I did. Is the blinking engine light because of bad ecu? Cause if it misfired wouldn't it give me some codes? I also left the front engine mount from automatic, could it cause any problems?

The blinking O/D light is normal. You can get rid of it by taking out the AT control module which is located right on top of the ECU.

If you misfired, there would be a code.

The AT front engine mount will not cause any problems... other than really bad wheel hop at launch.

Did you bolt the timing ring up to the flywheel?

Okay,I'll take it off next weekend. Yes,I did bolt it. I also noticed that there is a smell of gas, guess its running too rich. Im quite new to these electronically controlled devices,so how can I fix that?

93 or 94 seats in a 5th gen maxima

I was at a junkyard today with a buddy and I saw a couple of I30's and the seats looked to be in pretty good condition. I read that a guy put these seats in his 4th gen but the rear bolt holes didn't match up. Does anyone know if this would be the same case for a 5th gen?

Don't know yet, havent been able to measure it. But,I measure valve (lash)?,sorry I don't speak fluent English, and I found that I need to adjust them,For example, there were many valves that had over 0.4,or under 0.15.
Could that solve the problem? and to the real question, how to check if my valve timing is correctly set?I still have my valve covers off,so if someone could like tell me which valves should be opened or closed or opening or closing, when cylinder number one is at its TDC of its compression stroke. It would make sense that there is something wrong.
