Schmellyfart's 4th gen
*****... O well. hooold on, what are you swapping the 00vi for?!? Did u find a way to put on the 3.5 kinitex ssim? you shall be crowned king of vq30 lol you're the only one still finding ways to squeeze out power n/a out of it while everyone has gone 3.5 <--- losers lol
http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/5...os-inside.html
tl;dr head porting and rear vc/coil shenanigans.
ooo lol ok. cool, thanks for the read i'm getting started on it now... kinda second thinking cause it might make me want to do more to the max lol!
EDIT: woah thats too much for me. my 00vi was like 90% bolt on kit with all block off plates etc. , cake lol
it would be good if crusher103 had an 00vi swapped 4th gen for butt dyno comparison of both vi's. seems like it would make a lil more power than 00vi but then you can do this http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/6...yno-gains.html and then who knows how much you'll gain up top! anyways hats off to you sir, i'm sure you'll get her done successfully! good luck dude

I think Dandymax is the king of the VQ30 still.
I'm heir to the throne though.

Dope car, smelly. Can't wait to see more progress.

lol makes it look quicker but move slower.

Return setup on 3.5 fuel rail, dek injectors, dek fpr, and same fuel rail adapter I used on the dek rail with the 00vi. 3.0de tb and no iacv for now. Untuned for now.

Only thing that sucks is I just bought some new 245s for my RX7 wheels a week or two ago and got Discount to put a 30k mile warranty on them for free.
I'd like to daily the Millenia wheels for wicked mpgs since the 245s seem to have brought my average down per tank by 1-2 mpg.
It would be nice to throw some drag radials or slicks on the Millenia wheels too.
Decisions, decisions.

There's your problem, I hear nyc city traffic is terrible.
Only ~100 of the 400 miles were highway. Everything else was city under 50mph

Has it been a painful process achieving that kind of fuel economy? I'm envisioning shifting at 1500-2000 rpm, near hyper miling driving habits, etc?? Oh btw, are you leaving the line jumping from 1st gear to 4th or something?
Just curious as I used to try to wrangle every mpg out of my cars but completely hated driving while doing it lol. That being said, you've achieved some very impressive numbers considering the displacement, and it doesn't hurt that the 4th gen is 500-1000lbs lighter than the average mid/full size sedan nowadays...
It's always funny how manufacturers scream out hwy numbers while city fuel economy is whispered in the fine print where gearing, aero, etc can't do as much good...

Not at all, quite honestly I love it because the $5-$10 I save per tank can be put towards other fun mods. If anything was painful, it was certainly when I was only getting 22 mpg after swapping the 3.5 in, especially coming from being able to easily and consistently get 27-29 mpg with the 3.0.
I do employ a lot of hypermiling techniques, but a lot of it has become second nature by now. I leave 5-10 minutes early so I'm not tempted to step on it to arrive in time. Reduce idle time as much as possible, coast, read ahead into traffic and stoplights. I don't draft. I usually shift around 2000-2200 rpm at 10-12% throttle and I don't skip gears. I monitor my mpg with a scangauge II and adjust my driving habits accordingly.
I do get on the throttle every now and then, a few times per tank will not make a huge difference over 350 miles.

Maaan I miss the good ol days w/ getting 28-29 in traffic w/ the red car.
I am sad to say the results were not repeated w/ the white car's 6MT swap, even though MPG did go up by 3-4 all the way around (22mpg 5mt to 26mpg 6mt in the city), just nowhere near as epic as before.

Well, at least the jump is still there. Spec V Final drive in the white car as well?
I have long term plans for a 6mt swap, just not sure of which FD would be best for me. My ultimate goal is to be able to average low 30s city.

I sold the car w/ the maxima 3.7 FD though, no idea what MPG it's getting now.
And now it's getting 3.5 swapped, soooo yeah mpg would be a big who-knows.
Long term? Need to make those short term, best mod to date IMO has been the 6mt swap, but then again I have yet to own a 3.5 swapped car, that swap may rival the 6mt swap in terms of overall improvement.
That's still really impressive fuel economy guys especially considering the power you guys are making...
I don't have a Max anymore but still tinker with my old beater '93 Altima 2.4 (future FI project) and being only a 4spd auto, I dropped in the 4.08 FD with shorter 1-3 gearing from the 2001 Altima and it's terrible lol! Even driving conservatively, it's only getting about 21 city with intake/header/2.25" catback and only a few more on the hwy since it's turning 3300rpm at 70!
It used to get 25 city and 36 hwy w/the stock 3.59FD and pre E10 fuel...
It's a fun little car in the city but the auto has to go soon...sorry for the threadjack schmelly.
