I've been thinking about this engine bay for 3 days straight.
Love it

I cleaned mine up really good last week. Fixed a couple oil leaks while I was at it.

That spot is totally accessible. You know, you don't necessarily have to repaint it all professional-like. You could simply sand it down, cover it with some POR-15 or Chassis Saver, then paint over that with white. It won't be perfect, but it will last for a few years, and certainly look better than that bit of cancer.

Otherwise, total thumbs up for your engine bay! I would have thought Gold would look tacky on the UIM, but it actually looks pretty good with the white car, and particularly with the FSTB brackets, radiator tie-downs and open-hood switch painted the same color. Well done.

Might as well paint your dipstick loop the same orange. Have you thought about that? And maybe remove those two yellow factory stickers on the front chassis bar.

I'll probably do what you suggested with the rust spot. For the most part I have little to no rust on this car. I think it's because it originated from Nevada/Arizona area.

The color is actually a metallic bronze. For some reason everyone either says it's gold or orange and thinks it's powder coated. My brake calipers are also painted the same color and my 00VI will also be painted the same before install. I never thought of painting the dipstick loop. That would actually look really good. I've also removed the coil pack cover on the front. It doesn't look half bad with the coils exposed and black valve cover. With a white car I had the option to pretty much go any color. Blue, red and yellow are all over used though. Was shooting for something different and seems like it was a good choice. Everyone compliments it when the hood is popped. The more I look at the yellow stickers the more I want to remove them. I'll probably do it when I get around to it.

I didn't "relocate" the battery. I had it removed for the cleaning process and then re-positioned it.

This is before the clean but shows how the battery sits.

Got an email reminder today about activity in this old thread. It's been almost 3 years since I've had the Maxima, but I'm still into keeping my engine bay detailed. That said, here's a current picture of the engine bay in my G:

Jon, you can buy new water pipes and radiator hold-downs to replace those rusty things, and have them powder-coated for all kinds of win.

Think about it.

Still a work-in-progress, but we're slowly getting there. Hopefully I get to finish up/figure out the small gremlins over the winter. Name: imagejpg2_zps93ef949c.jpg
