what year max = 3.5swap

I am looking into a 3.5 swap but I have a 1997 max and worried about running a cel after the swap. Where I live I will not pass emissions with a cel.
I was wondering if this is the reason alot of 3.5swaps are in 95 and 96's cause they have less emissions crap and still take a probe in the tail pipe and instead of connecting to the ecu

I know how to reset cel and clear the codes, but the ecu has to have a certain amount of miles on it or the emissions computer will still fail the car

Just swap the 3.0 back in before you have to get smogged.

half year models do, my last maxima was a 96 and I was able to do the old tail pipe test

also I did a search and this is what some-1 posted is this correct or not. All I want is a yes or no if I will get a cel and not pass emissions on a 97 with a 3.5

"The '96+ model is OBD2 and requires equivalent or newer ecu for emissions (stupid plug). Using a '95, I [potentially] get all the body amenities/ features of the '99 models"

Or do a 3.5 swap exactly like mine. No CEL's guaranteed.

2003 maxima block, rods, arp hardware
2002 pathfinder heads, lower intake manifold, pistons
your stock everything else: fuel setup, evap, iacv, and intake manifold.

This will yield you a CEL'less 3.5 swap, guaranteed.

I read somewhere that you could use resistors to fake the ECU into thinking that there is no problem.

No I don't have proof. I think someone told me verbally it could be done. I'm no electrical guru but you might want to ask some people who are. Or do some research on resistors. It could be done b/c this is what people do when there knock sensor fails and they don't want to replace it.
