Remote starter issues
I've experienced the same issue but I thought it was due to the other transmitter being within range of the vehicle. It's worked 90% of the time that I've tried it so not sure if it's an issue with the vehicle or with something I'm doing wrong.
My 2nd transmitter is never with me when I try and use my remote. I have read and re-read the instructions in the manual. Make sure the car is 1st locked then press the remote. I've pressed it quickly and I've held it down for a few seconds, still intermittent working and not.
I think I'll take to the dealer.

I found this info on an Altima site. Their remote is essentially the same.

The remote engine start operating range is approximately 197 ft (60 m) from the vehicle.
The remote start will not operate if any of the following conditions are present:
● The ignition switch is placed in the ON position.
● The hood is not securely closed.
● The hazard warning lights are on.
● The I–Key Indicator Light remains solid in the vehicle information display.
● The alarm sounds due to illegal entry into the vehicle.
● The ignition switch is pushed without an Intelligent Key in the vehicle.
● The ignition switch is pushed with an Intelligent Key in the vehicle but the brake pedal is not depressed.
● Two remote vehicle starts, or a single remote start with an extension, have already been used.
● The vehicle is not in P (Park).
● The Remote Start function has been switched to the OFF position in Vehicle Settings of the vehicle information display. For additional information, see “Vehicle information display” in the “Instruments and controls” section of this manual.
The remote engine start may display a warning or indicator in the vehicle information display. For an explanation of the warning or indicator please see “Vehicle information display warning and indicators” in the “Instruments and controls” section.

2. Press and hold the starter button on the remote for 3-4 seconds or until the car starts.
I just did this and it took exactly 3 seconds for the car to start.
I have noticed this slight delay in performing other functions with this car. For instance, with my 7th gen Maxima, when approaching the locked car, I could push the door button twice with no pause between pushes, and the door on which I pushed the button would unlock, then immediately, all other doors would also unlock. But with the 8th gen, unless I pause a second or so between pushes, only the door on which I pushed the button will unlock.
I haven't tried unlocking the doors from a distance with the remote yet, but I suspect I may find the same pause needed there also.
But the 7th and 8th gens are alike in one detail - I can lock this car from almost three hundred feet away, and that has saved me retracing my steps in shopping centers more than once (when I couldn't remember if I had locked the car).
