Won't finish Start-Up with Good FOB & Foot on Brake.
2011-Nissan Maxima-190K Miles
Car does not try to start when the Brake is Pressed, Start Button Pushed & FOB in Hand. The car had been working fine. Last Sunday night I parked my car in a driveway with a fairly steep upward angle. I went in the house & came out 5 minutes later & the car acted fine but would not activate the engine start-up. I was doing everything as I would normally. All the lights came on. I did the brake/button process & you could sort of hear the engine make a soft mechanical noise like it was going to start but stopped. When I looked at the dash the “put foot on brake” signal was on, but my foot was firmly pressing the brake. I confirmed that the brake lights would come on when I pressed the brake. I thought maybe the battery in the FOB was dead, but it locks & unlocks the doors with no problem. I replaced the battery about a year & a half ago. Plus the system constantly warns you when the battery is low. I drove it a year with the warning saying the battery was less than half full. The Car Battery & the FOB have plenty of power as far as I can tell. Here are the steps I’ve tried to fix the issue.
-I tried to jump-start it with a jump pack & a separate car, No Luck.
-The AAA guy checked the fused on the positive lead coming from the battery & they were fine.
-The AAA guy tried to jump it & it didn’t change anything.
-I tried changing the battery in the FOB but that didn’t work.
-I inserted the FOB in the re-programing port below the sheering wheel, to the left & it did nothing.
-I pressed the brake then with the FOB in my hand pressed the FOB to the Start Button & nothing happened.
-I put the car in Neutral & did the starting steps above & that didn’t work.
I’m out of ideas now. I’ve seen some videos that talk about the Steering Wheel Locking fuse could be the issue. I haven’t been able to try that. I saw a video where they said the wheel locking system in the column of the steering wheel could be the problem. I haven’t tried to take apart the steering column yet. That makes me nervous & so does pulling fuses. Unless there is instruction on where, how & why to do that. I’m at a loss. I have a link to the youtube video I made to show what's going on, if that would help. If anyone has any ideas about how to solve this that I haven’t tried yet, I’d appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,

This thread might help you. It does sound like your steering wheel locking mechanism is frozen in the locked position, thereby preventing starting. Take special note of post #4 as it has a temporary solution to get the car started. Called the tapping method. Once the car is started pull the steering lock fuse and the problem is solved permanently. The steering lock fuse is clearly marked on the engine bay fuse box lid. Just make sure the ignition switch is in the run position when you pull the fuse. I pulled my fuse 10 years ago and not problems since.
