Turbo upgrade HX40 6-Blade (from the HX35)
So I am putting in a bigger tranny cooler, its 8" x 22" x 1.75". so a beefy ****. You guys think its a bad idea putting the cooler infront of the intercooler? Only draw back is that I wouldnt be able to put a fan there, but with air so direct i prob dont need one.
The other spot is infront of the condenser like it normaly is but im wondering if it does not get enough flow there. you guys think the condenser area gets good enough flow? The cooler will take up from the top to the bottom of the condenser(behind the bumper) so the only exposed area is the top part.

I was looking at behind the bumper, and if I can relocate or do something about the powersteering cooler, id be able to fit the tranny cooler+fan in there with no problem. Just gotta figure out wat to do about the PS cooler.
random update:
welded the turbine housing internal WG valve shut (it was leaking), THINK the turbo spool up a little sooner, I do however have an even bigger leak at the Cat location, the stupid 2bolt stock flange (fking hate it!), with no muffler, at idle i can feel alot of air coming out the top through a small gap, in an almost completely free flowing exhaust except for turbo in the way, that means under boost and spool up that leak must be huge! I am going to fix it after school ends.
Took off all the corrections for my boost solenoid to check how much boost i get with WG spring alone, I am getting 6-7psit with a 13psi spring!!!! lol, I am hoping its the exhaust pre turbo leak causing this, if not its prob a boost leak somewhere, or a combination of both.

yeah, I really want to put a vband, specially after finding a very cheap source for them (siliconeintakes.com), but times are tough right now, so for now i'll just replace the gasket with another ****ty gasket lol. Cant weld a pipe there because thats the ONLY place where my entire exhaust system has a division (from ypipe to catback) so imagine getting it off one day with no separations lol.
I wonder how much that leak is really hurting, and if its actually the cause for 6psi pressure drop (I hope so), would be awesome if the turbo spools even faster when fixed.
When i put my hand over the flange, you can feel like a small gap about half inch of exhaust leaking with good amount of pressure, considering my exhaust is not restricted, only the turbos blades are in the way to the exist (and housing is HUGE, so no backpressure), when all that **** is pressurized that leak must be nuts.

Half an inch is definitely the leech that can effect the spool. I have a 2 bolt flange on my y to the turbo feed and over time the bolts got loose and the flange slightly shifted. The looseness helped eat the gasket and the I could hear the leak, I did some research on the orange high temp rtv. Some guys use that instead of gaskets so I used that and a new gasket to take care of the leak, it's held up for some months now. Just throwing that out there since you can do that fairly quick until you source the v band stuff. I did let the rtv cure though (24 hrs) before I drove the car again.
Update, no real good new though BUT:
as per my other thread, I fixed my MAF leak (hopefully for good), and this turbo is starting to feel like the damn hx35 as far as spool up!!!!!!!! Very happy about that, the leak was hurting it big time, boost comes in pretty quick. I still got a 6psi pressure drop since I still have an exhaust leak, once that is fixed this week I am so curious to see how it spools up and finally get it turned up to 18psi! 18cm^2 housing aint so bad afterall, might be due to the bigger compressor wheel bringing in more flow at lower boost, so although might take longer, still getting more flow at lower boost.

HX turbos use 12x1.5mm fittings. DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!

I used that one specifically

I got the back housing from www.turbotrader.com I think the site is still down but I have his number. I know he had a few in stock both in .55 & .70 a/r.

If I remember correctly mine is a .059. Kevlos is using something way smaller though, like .30something or smaller.
I fixed my exhaust leak, band new charge piping from back to the front, all aluminum with mandrel bends. Boost comes in alot ealier and stronger. for the bad news (dosnt fail), I still have about 6psi pressure loss, boost is solid and stays at 6psi. I am coming to the conclusion that its the damn intercooler!!!!!!!!!! SIGHHHHHHHH
For now I am just going to accept the fact i have that much loss, I am only going to stick to 10-15psi (20psi at turbo) at the manifold, and one day figure out what to do about the IC, I guess you get what you pay for (ebay IC)

Couple pictures of the new piping, I love it!!! Shoulda done it from the start 3 years ago. (Was only 80something bucks, considering all the bends, couplers and Tbolts you get), I also removed at least 15lb's off the car, steel piping is heavy!!!

Found the possible boost loss:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGjQhNkB-Ng

The manifold is cracked right behind the bolt, also the spacer was leaking i guess since the manifold was cracked. Hard part was that I coudlnt hear it leaking! i sprayed the area by mistake and saw huge bubbles, was like wtf! then kept spraying it and found it.

On a serious note, this is a good thing.

Yes, its a VERY good thing, I am praying that this is the reason for my 6psi loss. I also had a leak on the nozzle as you can see in the video, and another leak on one of my clamps for vac hoses. maybe all them small leaks = 6psi loss lol.
The unfortunate news is that i have to downgrade to a damn SSIM, I was given that manifold for free, but was somewhat gutted. For now ill use it and see how it goes, hopefully someone can donate a manifold lol.
This the manifold im putting on now:
