97 Max Power but not starting

I just bought a 97 max, and I can turn the key and it has power but not start. some times it starts but most times it doesn't. I cleaned the corroded battery terminals still nothing. So I am going to change the Ignition switch in the morning. Is that a good place to start? Or what else should I try? I have only had the car for 2 days.

I doubt if it is the ignition switch. It is more likely to be the crankshaft position sensor the senses the teeth on the flywheel. Take it off and make sure it is clean. It could still be bad and cleaning won't help.

I had the same issue with terminals but they ended up needing to be replaced. Make sure yours are in good enough condition to make proper contact with the battery.

Failing starter solenoid. May be time for a new starter.

You might try running a jumper wire between the positive terminal of the battery and the smaller terminal of the starter.

Be sure that the car is in park or neutral of course.

If the starter turns normally, the issue is probably the ignition switch. If not, the starterm is suspect.

^this. Pull the small lead off the starter solenoid. Try applying 12V directly to the terminal. Then check the wire with a teast light while someone tries to start it. Could be the ignition switch, clutch inhibitor circuit, starter, or wiring.

OR does it crank fine, and just not fire up?

cranking and starting are two different things. Please explain your condition with more clarity.
