Electrical question, trunk room light...help

My trunk courtesy light, located in between the speakers inside the trunk, has not illuminated in a few years, and it's quite annoying using a cell phone to light up my trunk at night. I've tested the and changed the bulb MANY times, so I KNOW it's not that, but when I recently gutted out the whole rear of the cabin, including the speaker/third-brake-light deck, and exposed all the wiring there, I tested the wiring for that light fixture and it's not receiving any current. Some nissan technician believes that the sensor that knows when the trunk lid is open is not recognizing an open circuit, therefore not turning on my darn light!. Please, anyone had this problem? ...know what to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is for an '89, GXE...which fuse would cover that particular electrical component? I'm having no trouble with any other electrical devices.

All fuses were just checked (at least I checked all the ones on the fuse cluster below and to the left of the steering wheel). They're fine.

I had the exact same problem. It turned out the wires were cut at the swinging hinge (driver side). From the look of it I thought some one had cut it but upon carefull examination I can see that the hinged could have slide it off. I just rewire it and tape it out of the way from the hinge and all is working now.

I also spent many hours tracing the wires/ fuses and gave up for a couple years before find this out.
