hesitation in acceleration

I have a 98 five speed, and this week I have started to notice that the car is hesitating when I press the gas down, I really seams like it has lost its pep, then all of the sudden it will pick up and take off. I just cleaned my MAF, and checked my ecu for codes and did not get any. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so...what did you do. Thanks.

I feel this too somtimes, I have already cleaned my TB, replaced my fuel filter and i got a K&N Air Filter. I am still kinda afraid to tighten my throttle cable...is that a normal procedure or it is a hack around to get that feel back?

no I have not cleaned the TB, I did just take my intake off and clean the filter, and the MAF. Is the procedure for cleaning the TB in the Haynes manual? (sorry I am at work I dont have any way of looking right now)

I know what you mean. You press the gas and at like 2000rpm you sort of get a little surge where the car picks up speed. I have that too and have all the things mentioned above brand new, except the KS...

clutch is not slipping, and I got my codes (no codes) a few days ago, I will have to check them again just to make sure.

Also when idling my rpms go up and down, anywhere from 500 to 1200. So after reading about cleaning the TB...the loss of power and the funny idle are making me think that may be the prime suspect.
