Brake Light On?

Has anyone had their brake light come on for a reason other than having the ebrake on? This morning on my way to work it came on but as soon as i put the car in park at work, it turned off, when i moved it back into drive, the light stayed off.... any ideas????

Hmmm, I wouldn't worry about it unless it comes back.

If your brake and batt light ever turn on, it means the alternator is dead.

The brake light indicator lights up for three reasons:

1) Parking brake is set
2) Brake fluid low...
3) Alternator/Battery issues

Check your brake fluid level - its probably low...

Yes, like njmodi said, check your fluid.
If it is not that and not the ebrake, it is a bettery/alternator problem.

clarification

so just to make sure, this can have nothing to do with my actual normal brakes right? except for the fluid of course. I was planning on changed pads and rotors next week when i get them in from the group deal, becuase i need new brakes, i just thought it was farfetched to think they had put a sensor in to check how much pad you had left or something.... that seemed kind of odd... im guessing its probably the fluid... any recommendations on brand of fluid???

You are correct... there is a small chance that your brake light switch that is triggered by your parking brake could be sticking... but again, it won't "affect" your brakes... Don't top off fluid all the way to the MAX - just add enough to cover the sensor... because if you plan on doing your brakes soon - when you compress the pistons to fit the new pads/rotors, the fluid will automatically rise in the reservoir (unless you open the bleeder valves and let the fluid out that way when you compress the pistons).

I personally use Castrol GT LMA brake fluid...
