why are 99 ecus so different than the 95 ecus

i really want to know the answer to this question. why is it that there are uprgraded ECU's for 95-97 but there is none for the 99. what is the difference between the two. i along with many other 99 owners would like to know in detail the difference in the ecu's for the 99 vs. the 95-97 ecu.

info would be greatly appreciated for research. thank you.

Different emissions system. I know 97+ have a different rear 02. Even though they are in different places the 97+ have 4 wires instead of 3 on 95/96's

yeah it is only 95-96 that are reprogrammable, and i know that some 99's have the cali-spec ecu's which are made specifically for, duh, california emissions.... thats about all i know at this time....

long answer - start around post #50

short answer - you can get your 99 to work with a 96 ecu if you do not mind modifying your wiring harness. I can send you a list of the terminals that need to be moved. You will have multiple codes to deal with after switching ecus. To my knowlege, no one has performed this mod.
