I recently acquired an '99 Automatic SE-L. I've been reading most all threads. I've seen a couple where someone has gone up against a 5.0 Mustang. Can a Max take a Stang? About three months ago I rode in a '00 Automatic Stang. There were some serious g-forces.

Not unless the 5.0 has a horrible driver or engine trouble.

I've ran plenty of 5.0's and 4.6's. Unless the Stang is a newer(99+) you should at least be able to hang with him, 5spd or not. But if they are even slightly modded, it may be over for us auto boyz. As far as 5.0L, my friend has an auto 5.0, and I could walk him to 75-80(when the Max hits 3rd, then it's all him), he literally runs away from me. I raced a 5spd 5.0 Stang once and he barely pulled on me from 0-80, then when the Max hits third, all I saw was two talipipes.

two 5.0 kills last week at the track.. I noticed that many of the minor or un-modded 5.0 are about as fast as a 5spd maxima, but once they get a couple mods their times drop fast... you've got no chance against a 4.6 unless they are stock and you are S/C or NOS.

Thanks for the responses.

You confirmed my thoughts. The Stang is a totally different animal. I believe the Max has more character, is smoother, better looking, etc.

5.0's

It is very possible to beat a 5.0 mustang. All it takes is enough mods, a good driver, and the petal to the metal. To give you an example, with the mods I have listed, I can walk 5.0's. I'm just a little faster. The newer 4.6 litre mustangs are a whole nother story though. They're quite a bit faster!

5.0's had like 225 hp, and the prev. generation 4.6L had 215 hp, but the new 4.6 has 260..........that seems like a lunch platter for the next gen Max....

So it's third gear is better than the Max's? I thought we have the good 3rd gear. lol.

5 speeds have a great 3rd gear, auto's have a pretty good 2nd gear. But the 3rd gear in the auto isn't so hot
