Ouch!! My Babys Hurt...
On my way to work this morning some jerk flung his big *** buick door open just as I was driving by, and hit my car. I got lucky, all he did for damage was crack the passenger mirror housing. Then before i even got out of my car he starts yelling and saying it was my fault. I left without exchanging info, because
I think insurance wise I would be at fault, even though it was his neglegence.
My question is can I buy a non heated mirror housing and swap guts or are the different in some way?

Why were you driving so close to his car? Or was he parked too far from the curb? Hard to say whose fault it was, but you should have stopped? What happens if he took your licence plate # and reports the incident to the cops? Methinks then you're potentially in trouble.

I was in my lane, and he flung a 4' buick door into it, i was not to close...
I did stop, and he was being rude, and we went back and forth for a few mins, and we agreed to tell each other off and leave with a little satisfation.
Its a he said she said thing i think hard to tell what would come out of it...
Its only a $50 mirror shipped, I would lose more in deductable if i reported it...
At least mine will cost 1/10th of what his did
Ill post a few pics in a few hours...

I have to change mine though, It has orange markers, I have Clear Now, & Tinted Windows...

Let's see. He opened the door into a roadway. It is his fault, legally. They are required to use due diligence in the act of placing anything in a traffic lane. Same goes for pedestrians. So, if a pedestrian walks out from the front of a truck and you have no time to avoid him, it's your fault? I think not. You had him dead to rights. It's also illegal to park more and 18 inches from the curb (in this state anyway). I would have let the old guy have it if he wanted to mouth off. He was negligent. He might play the "I've been driving for 100 years" card but the facts would show you were not at fault.
If anyone doubts me, use the "But for" theory that is used in tort law. But for his actions, the damage would not have happened. You were driving down the street, he was obviously parking along the curb. His actions [of opening the door without looking for oncoming traffic] caused the damage.

your not at fault
If you are driving down the street and some ******* flings his door open and you hit him it's 100% his fault. In connecticut at least. Something like this happed to be a few years back i took the f#$%ers door right off his car. when the cops arrived they though the guy was an idiot because he was trying to blame me.

You should have stopped and swapped info and called the police to report the accident. It was absolutely his fault. Hell, if a person swings open a door into your path of travel, you can take his door off and he will be charged.

Heh, same **** happened to my uncle years ago in Massachusetts. Some lady threw open her door and he took it off with his work truck. Cop showed up and gave her a ticket and told my Uncle to go home and have a nice day.
Also those redlinemax mirrors are just covers for the part of your mirror that didn't break. I think there was some thread a while back about some mirrors with turn signals and they had a power folding feature, anyone have a link to that one?
