Death of an Autotragic.

Well, just as the title says, my auto finally gave up. 150k worth. I can't complain, I bought the car a year ago with 117k and they told me the tranny was going out then. Getting it stuck in the snow and ice about a dozen times was the last straw though(for everyone's future reference when Goodyear says certain tires aren't meant for snow or ice...they mean it, lol). So. After a trip to the dealer to get the last few remaining parts I needed, the long awaited 5spd swap begins. 5th gen clutch, Fidanza flywheel (lets keep our fingers crossed that it makes it here on time), and brand new shiny axles. Hopefully a new car after this weekend. I was hoping to do the 3.5 swap at the same time, but the motors not ready yet and I miss my baby, so here goes nothing... wish me luck.

I'm in the middle of my 5 spd. swap right now. I started having problems with my autotragic at around 140k. Make sure with your fidanza flywheel that the TIMING RING is on there. I made the dumb *** move of not buying a brand new OEM one and had to redo my whole 5 spd. swap. First time i removed my tranny took me and 1 other guy about 3 hours. Now I can pull my manual tranny out in about 1 hour. Good luck with your swap...it'll be worth it in the end.

Well, the swap has been delayed until next week due to the flywheel not making it on time. I have a list, been checking it over and over, so far the only thing on it I don't have (or haven't ordered) is the trim piece for the interior, which isn't high on my priority list. Dealer wanted 65 bones. No thanks. So I'll scour the yards for one. I miss my Maxi . OnEBadAsSi30 thanks for the advice, I assumed it came with one, but with a week extra, if it doesn't I can still have time to order one from the stealership. Hopefully I'll have some pics up when I finally get everything going. Wouldn't have had to wait if the place i got one before hadn't sent me a FLEXPLATE after asking me 4 times "manual or automatic"! Oh well.

My auto is deluxe! 131,000 and no indications of problems. Runs super smooth and fast! Many Maxima owners on this site have autos running up in the high 100,000s. It all depends on how well you maintain and drive your car. So don't knock the autos...they are as good as they get.

If I check the service manual for the auto trannie, is it listed under garbage, so garbage, complete garbage, or autotragic? Maybe that's why I never found any info!

I have to agree....if the car is pounded on, floored from a complete stop often and just plain not maintained, problems are to be expected. I know many auto Maxs with lots n lots of miles that have trannies that are fine.

WHen I think of "garbage" auto trannies, the first thing that comes to mind are Acura TL autos. They have a reputation for failing. Nissan is not junk
