Help! 97 Max won't start!

Hi all, please help.

97 Maxima SE, AUTOMATIC transmission.

Two days ago, I cleaned the positive post on the battery and added water to it, as part of the regular maintenance. The car started and ran fine after that.

Yesterday, it refused to start. All I heard is a soft click. I tried to jump start it. I replaced the battery with a brand new one. Still no luck. All the lights, horn, stereo, etc. work fine.

The starter does not even make a single sound. From my past experience, starters don't just quit. They usually give you plenty of warning before finally failing.

I'm thinking of a bad fuse, a bad connection somewhere. Have you experienced this symptom before?

Thanks,

I've had that same problem after replacing the tranny, and after replacing the starter 3 times within 2 weeks i was fed up with it. I would have this problem after every 3-4 days, and we've constantly checked the fuses/relays and they were fine. So i took it to my garage, and the mechanic put in an extra relay running a wire to the starter plug, a new ground, and to the battery. Now it starts up fine!!

EDIT: Still having same problems....

So your problem was just a bad connection, correct?

Your problem sounds like a bad ground connection from the battery to the frame.

Make sure its nice and snug.

Good luck!

check the relay box next to and the other one in front of the battery, I never put water on a battery thats ridiculous, and unneccesary, it could have gotten into a relay box, or onto the starter, or even on the ground and corroded it just enough. First thing I'd check is whether it starts in neutral, if not,
Check the trigger wire on the starter (starter is under your intake snorkel) the trigger is the harness/plug(small wire) have a friend put the car into start position see if you have power at the trigger(test light/multi meter).
